2007년 제1회 DIMF와 함께 출발한 ‘DIMF 대학생뮤지컬페스티벌’은 뮤지컬 전공 대학생들이 선의의 경쟁을 통해 실력을 증진하도록 마련된 국내 최초의 대학생 뮤지컬 경연 대회로, 지난 14년간 국내는 물론 중국, 일본, 필리핀, 태국 등 글로벌 대학까지 총 109개 대학이 참여하는 등 명성을 이어오고 있다.

 
또한 본 대회는 뮤지컬 배우와 관련 분야로의 진로를 희망하는 전공자들에게 일반 대중 앞에서 공연을 펼칠 수 있는 기회임과 동시에 관객들에게는 수준 높은 공연을 무료로 볼 수 있어 높은 인기를 자랑하는 DIMF의 메인 프로그램이다.

 
여기에 같은 꿈을 꾸고 있는 청년들이 선의의 경쟁을 넘어 서로를 응원하고 소통할 수 있는 장(場)이자 국내 및 세계 각국의 뮤지컬 관계자가 참여하는 글로벌 축제인 DIMF에서 자신의 끼를 발휘할 수 있어 뮤지컬 전공 대학생들에게 꿈의 무대로 주목받고 있다.   

 
오는 여름, DIMF의 15주년 무대를 장식할 ‘제15회 DIMF 대학생뮤지컬페스티벌’은  2월 9일부터 4월 30일까지 참가 대학 접수를 이어간다.

 
올해는 코로나-19로 인해 기존의 경연과는 심사 방법이 사뭇 달라진다. 참가 신청한 대학들을 대상으로 1차로 예선 실연 심사를 거치는 경쟁방식이 아닌, 참여 작품 등의 내용을 바탕으로 내부 심사를 거쳐 축제기간에 공연을 펼칠 대학을 초청하는 방식을 취한다.

 
참가 대상은 국내 대학 재학생으로 구성되어 총(학)장의 추천을 받은 단체로 졸업생, 대학원생을 제외한 순수 대학 재학생만 참여 가능하며 뮤지컬 관련학과는 물론 교내 뮤지컬 동아리의 참가 또한 가능하다.

 
초청 대상으로 선정된 대학에게는 공연 지원금, 공연장 대관, 홍보 등의 지원이 제공되며 제15회 DIMF 기간(2021년 6월 18일 ~ 7월 5일) 동안 실연공연과 DIMF의 공식 및 부대행사 등의 참여를 통해 국내·외 뮤지컬관계자와 관객 앞에서 다채로운 무대를 선보이게 된다.

축제 기간 넘치는 에너지로 공연을 선보인 참가자 대학들은 올해 경연이 아닌 친선교류에 의미를 둠에 따라 단체상에 대한 수상대신 작품 속 뛰어난 기량을 선보인 개인에게 주어지는 남녀연기상 및 크리에이터상에 대한 시상이 진행되며 그 결과는 축제의 피날레인 ‘DIMF 어워즈’에서 가려진다.

현재 코로나19로 글로벌 대학의 참여 및 교류와 수상자 뉴욕 브로드웨이 연수 프로그램 운영여부가 불투명하지만 DIMF는 대학생들이 글로벌 시대에 걸맞은 인재로 발돋움할 수 있도록 해외 교류기회를 확대하고 코로나19 상황에 따라 브로드웨이 연수 프로그램을 재개해 본 대회의 입지를 더욱 견고히 하고자 한다.

 
특히, 지난 가을 온·오프라인 투트랙으로 열네 번째 축제를 성공적으로 개최하며 공연예술계 모범 방역 사례를 남긴 DIMF는 무엇보다 참가자들이 안전하게 무대에 설 수 있도록 코로나19의 확산을 예의주시하며 정부의 방역지침에 따라 경연 준비에 만전을 기할 것이라 전했다.
