【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=여준구 한국로봇융합연구원장이 제3대 원장에 이어 제4대 원장으로 연임한다. 임기는 7월 16일부터 3년간이다.

여원장은 수중로봇분야의 세계적인 석학으로, 서울대학교 기계설계학과를 졸업하고 미국 오레곤 주립대학교 대학원에서 기계공학 석·박사를 취득했다.

하와이 주립대학교 기계공학과 교수, 미국국립과학재단(NSF) 정보지능시스템 (Information & Intelligent Systems)의 로봇 및 컴퓨터 비전 프로그램디렉터(PD), NSF 동아시아 태평양지역 소장직을 역임하였으며, 미국 대통령상, 미국 공학회 젊은교수상 등을 수상하였다. 또한 2005년에는 IEEE Fellow로 선정되었으며 지능서비스로봇 국제 학회지 초대 편집장을 역임하는 등 많은 국제 학회 활동도 했다.

국내에서는 2006년부터 한국항공대학교 5대, 6대 총장을 역임하였고, 2013년 KIST 석좌연구원, 달탐사연구사업 추진단장, 2015년 KIST 로봇·미디어 연구소장 직을 수행했다.

또한 국과위 운영위원, 국과심 전문위원, 과기부 4차 산업혁명 핵심기술 수준평가 위원회 위원장, 경북도 정책자문위원, 한국연구재단 정책자문위원 등 과학기술 정책 관련 정부의 여러 위원회 활동을 하였으며 2019년 한국로봇융합연구원 제3대 원장으로 취임하여 기관을 이끌어 왔다.

최근 열린 이사회에서 여원장은 재임기간 동안 대형 연구사업 유치 및 상용화 추진 등 연구원을 양적인 성장뿐만 아니라 질적인 성장도 함께 이루어 내었다는 점에서 성공적인 경영평가를 받았으며, 그 결과 반대의견 없이 절대 다수의 찬성으로 연임이 결정됐다.

여준구 원장은 올해 초 진행된 연구원 10주년 기념식에서 “한국로봇융합연구원의 10년 경험을 바탕으로 KIRO 2.0, 국제협력 활성화를 통한 글로벌 연구기관으로 성장시키도록 노력하겠다.” 고 밝혔다.

In addition, he has been active in various government committees related to science and technology policy, such as a member of the National Science and Technology Committee, an expert member of the National Science Review, the chairman of the 4th Industrial Revolution Core Technology Level Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology, a policy advisory member of Gyeongbuk Province, and a policy advisory member of the National Research Foundation of Korea. He took office as the 3rd president of the research institute and led the institution.

At the recent board meeting, President Yeo received a successful management evaluation in that he achieved qualitative as well as quantitative growth of the researcher, such as attracting large-scale research projects and promoting commercialization during his tenure. Retirement was decided.

At a ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the research institute held earlier this year, President Yeo Jun-koo said, “Based on the 10 years experience of the Korea Robot Convergence Research Institute, we will strive to grow into a global research institute through KIRO 2.0 and revitalization of international cooperation.” said.
