【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=한국로봇융합연구원(KIRO, 원장 여준구, 이하 연구원)은 여준구 원장의 연임과 연구원 설립 10주년을 맞아 지난 11월 2일자로 전체적인 조직개편 및 인사를 단행하고 KIRO 2.0 주요사업의 본격적인 추진에 나선다고 밝혔다.

9일 연구원에 따르면 이번 조직 개편에서 연구부서는 선임연구본부를 신설하고 그 동안 큰 성과와 성장을 이룬 연구센터를 연구본부로 승격시켰다.

이를 통해, 크게 확장하고 있는 로봇 시장의 요구에 적극적으로 대응하고, 초격차 및 특화 연구 분야의 연구역량을 키워서 더 큰 미래의 발전을 위한 기틀을 마련하고자 한다.

또한 기존에 있던 농업로봇자동화연구센터(안동), URI-Lab(서울, 부산)은 신설되는 지역연구본부의 산하조직으로 좀 더 체계적인 운영과 함께 각 지역 기업을 근접 지원하고 지역 특화 분야 연구개발의 활성화를 이루겠다는 목표이다.

새롭게 신설된 조직인 미래전략사업실은 KIRO가 가진 기술을 사업화하고 국제활동을 강화하여 글로벌 전문연구기관으로 도약하기 위한 조직이다.

KIRO는 그동안 축척한 원천기술과 연구 성과물들을 중심으로 최근 연구소 기업, ㈜에스에프로보틱스 (영문명: SFRobotics - Service & Field Robotics)를 설립하고 기술 사업화를 위한 기초를 마련했다.

지난 상반기에 신설된 미래인재실은 RoTIC (로봇직업혁신센터)을 중심으로 그 동안 100여대의 다양한 산업용 로봇을 갖추고 국내 최고의 로봇교육기관으로서 현장 전문인력을 양성하여 왔으며, 초중고 대상 로봇 AI 코딩 교육도 진행해 왔다.
