이번 챌린지는 최근 후쿠시마 오염수 방류 이후 수산물 안전에 대한 시민 불안감 증가와 이에 따른 수산물 소비위축이 우려되고 있는 가운데 수산물 소비 활성화를 위해 조승환 해양수산부 장관이 소통관계망(SNS)을 통해 캠페인을 시작하면서 이뤄졌다.

챌린지에 참여자로 지목되면 수산물 소비 활성화 내용을 담은 피켓을 든 사진을 게재하고 다음 참여자를 추천하는 방식으로 진행된다.

이강덕 시장은 지난 20일 성대훈 포항해양경찰서장의 지목을 받아 22일 ‘우리 수산물 안전합니다!, 안심하고 마음껏 드세요!’, ‘우리 수산물 꼼꼼깐깐! 포항시가 함께 합니다’가 적힌 피켓을 들고 챌린지에 참여했다.

이 시장은 다음 챌린지 참여자로 전성수 서초구청장, 조재구 대구 남구청장을 추천했다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “이번 챌린지가 어촌 경제에 힘을 불어넣을 수 있는 계기가 되길 바란다”며, “수산물 안전 확보를 위해 포항시에서 모니터링을 강화하는 등 철저하게 관리하고 있는 만큼 추석 명절을 앞두고 우리 수산물 소비가 활성화될 수 있도록 많은 관심을 가져달라”고 당부했다.

한편 포항시는 지난 6월 고순도게르마늄감마핵종분석기 1대, 해수 수질검사 전처리 설비 2대를 도입해 시료를 분석하고 있으며, 26일 기준 수산물 생산·유통 단계 158건, 해수 6건 등을 검사해 모두 적합 판정으로 안전한 것을 확인했다.
