이 시장은 특강에서 배터리, 수소, 바이오, AI·빅데이터 등 국가 첨단전략산업을 적극 육성하며 포항을 대한민국 지방시대를 선도하는 동해안 균형발전 거점도시로 성장시키기 위해 추진 중인 주요 역점 사업에 대해 설명했다.

또한 의사과학자를 양성하는 포스텍 의대설립이 국가바이오산업의 세계적 경쟁력을 견인하는 바이오보국을 실현하고, 지방소멸 위기를 극복할 균형발전 모범 모델이 될 수 있을 것이라고 강조했다.

이강덕 시장은 “초고령사회에 대응하고 도농 의료격차를 해소하는 한편 신종 감염병 위기 대응체계를 구축하는 등 시민 눈높이에 맞는 공공의료를 더욱 세심히 챙겨나가겠다”며 “중증 의료와 공공의료의 역량 강화로 지역의료를 혁신하고 지방시대를 열어가는데 포항의료원이 함께해 주길 바란다”고 당부했다.

한편 포항시는 지난 2021년 6월 포항의료원과 재가의료급여 시범사업 및 공공보건의료 협력체계 구축 사업 업무협약서를 체결하고, 사업의 원활한 수행과 상호 간의 협력·발전을 위해 지속적인 노력을 경주해오고 있다.
