이어 이진숙 예정자는 대구와 경북이 오랜 기간 행정 경계에 막혀 행정적 비효율을 겪어왔다고 지적했다. 그는 “생활권과 경제권을 공유하면서도 국비 확보, 공공기관 유치, 산업정책과 인재 양성에서 중복과 분산이 이어졌다”면서 “그 사이 수도권 집중은 더 심해졌고, 청년 인구 유출과 성장 동력 약화도 가속화됐다”고 진단했다.

이 예정자는 또 “대구와 경북은 역사와 문화, 정체성을 공유해 온 공동체”라며 “박정희 전 대통령이 보여준 도전정신과 ‘하면 된다’는 의지가 대구경북이 함께 쌓아온 소중한 자산”이라고 말했다.

아울러 “통합의 본질은 단순한 규모 확장이 아니라 역량의 총결집에 있다”며 “지방소멸, 청년 인구 감소, 산업구조 변화, 수도권 쏠림 현상 등 거대한 변화에 맞서기 위해 대구와 경북이 운명을 같이해야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

정치적 개입 우려에 대해서도 선을 그었다. 이진숙 출마 예정자는 “대구·경북 통합에는 외부의 정치적 개입이나 지방선거를 앞둔 개인적 이해관계가 들어가선 안 된다”며 “이는 500만 시도민의 미래를 위태롭게 하고, 또 다른 분열을 불러올 수 있다”고 경고했다.

최근 국회 법제사법위원회에서 통합특별법 처리가 보류된 상황과 관련해 그는 “일부 반대 의견에 막혀 법안 처리가 정체됐지만, 지역 정치권은 이번 임시국회 내 통과의 필요성을 다시 확인했다”며 “국회는 더는 지체하지 말고 대구·경북 통합특별법을 신속히 처리해야 한다”고 재차 강조했다.

He stated, "While sharing living and economic spheres, there has been continued overlap and fragmentation in securing national funding, attracting public institutions, industrial policy, and talent development." Lee Jin-sook, a prospective candidate for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk integration, warned, "The integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk must not be influenced by external political interference or personal interests ahead of the local elections. This could jeopardize the future of the city's 5 million residents and lead to further division."

Regarding the recent suspension of the special integration law in the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, she stated, "While the bill's passage has stalled due to some opposition, local politicians have reaffirmed the necessity of its passage during this extraordinary session."
