이번에 선적된 딸기는 김천 감로딸기영농조합법인(대표 고성택)에서 생산된 것으로 고성택 대표는 동남아 수출을 위해 국제농산물우수관리(Gobal-GAP) 및 할랄(Halal) 인증을 획득해둔 상태로 앞으로 태국, 싱가포르, 베트남, 캄보이아 4개국에 10톤을 목표로 딸기를 생산 및 수출할 예정이다.

이번에 선적한 딸기는 경상북도농업기술원에서 육종한 ‘알타킹’이라는 신품종으로 작년에‘수출용 딸기 신품종 농가 조기보급 시범사업’을 통해 보급됐다.

경북도내 딸기재배는 단일품종으로 편중되었으나 이 시범사업을 통해 품종 다변화를 꾀했다는 평가를 받고 있으며 경북도 육성 신품종의 우수성이 확인되어 다른 딸기 농가에서도 품종 문의가 많아 점차적으로 재배면적이 늘어날 것으로 기대된다.

수출용 딸기는 검역․물류 등 유통에 소요되는 기간을 고려하여 경도가 높은 품종을 위주로 재배되는데 지금까지는 경도가 높은 매향 품종을 위주로 이루어 졌으나 크기가 작은 단점이 있었다.

이에 비해 ‘알타킹’은 과실 크기가 크며 당도가 높고 쉽게 무르지 않을 뿐 아니라 병충해에도 강한 특성을 가지고 있어 수출용 딸기 품종으로 적합하다는 평가를 받고 있다.

신용습 경상북도농업기술원장은 “알타킹은 많은 장점을 가지고 있지만 기존의 품종과는 다른 특성을 가지고 있어 재배가 까다롭다”며 “알타킹 품종의 특성에 맞는 표준 재배법을 정립하여 경상북도에서 육성한 신품종이 농가에 확대 보급되고 농가소득 향상에 도움이 되도록 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Strawberries for export are cultivated mainly with high hardness varieties in consideration of the time required for distribution such as quarantine and logistics. Until now, Maeyang varieties with high hardness were mainly used, but there was a disadvantage of small size.

In contrast,'Alta King' is evaluated as suitable as a strawberry variety for export because it has a large fruit size, high sugar content, is not easily fragile, and is resistant to pests and diseases.

"Altaking has many advantages, but it is difficult to cultivate because it has different characteristics from existing varieties," said Shin Yong-sup, head of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Technology Institute.
