16일 한구뇌연구원에 따르면 KBRI 한국뇌은행은 인간 뇌 자원을 확보·관리하여 필요로 하는 연구자들에게 공급하기 위해 과학기술정보통신부 지원으로 2014년도부터 KBRI 내에 설치, 운영하고 있다.

한국뇌은행은 국내 각 권역별로 협력병원을 선정, ‘한국뇌은행 네트워크(Korea Brain Bank Network, KBBN)’를 구축하여 기증자로부터 뇌조직을 받아 각 협력병원에 보관하고 있다

초대 뇌은행장으로 故 지제근 서울대 교수, 2대 박성혜 서울대 교수, 3대 김종재 아산의생명과학연구원장을 거쳐 이번에 4대 뇌은행장으로 김세훈 교수가 임명됐다.

김세훈 한국뇌은행장은 연세대 의대 병리학교실 교수로 재직하고 있으며, 1994년 연세대 의대를 졸업하고, 같은 대학원에서 신경병리학 박사학위를 받았다.

2003년 연세대 의대 근무를 시작으로 미국 MD 앤더슨 암센터 연구원 등을 역임하였으며, 대한병리학회 회원, 국제신경종양학회 회원, 국제세포병리학위원회 회원 및 유럽신경병리학학회 회원, KBRI 신경병리 연구위원 등을 맡아 국내외 활발한 연구활동을 수행하고 있다.

신임 김세훈 한국뇌은행장은“전임 은행장님들의 노력을 이어받아, 한국뇌은행을 글로벌 경쟁력을 가진 국가 뇌과학 연구플랫폼으로 발전시키고 고품질의 뇌연구자원을 제공하여 뇌질환의 원인규명에 기여하므로써 국민 보건 향상에 이바지할 수 있도록 항상 노력하는 한국뇌은행이 되겠다.”고 밝혔다.

 Korea Brain Research Institute appoints Professor Sehun Kim as President of the Korea Brain Bank

Professor Se-hoon Kim was appointed as the 4th head of the brain bank after the late Professor Je-geun Ji of Seoul National University, Professor Seong-Hye Park of Seoul National University, and Jong-jae Kim of the Asan Institute of Biomedical Science and Biomedical Sciences as the 3rd President of the Asan Medical Research Institute.

Kim Se-hoon, head of the Korea Brain Bank, serves as a professor in the Department of Pathology at Yonsei University. He graduated from Yonsei University Medical School in 1994 and received a doctorate in neuropathology at the same graduate school.

Starting from Yonsei University Medical School in 2003, he served as a researcher at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the U.S., and served as a member of the Korean Society of Pathology, a member of the International Neuro-Oncology Association, a member of the International Cellular Pathology Committee, a member of the European Neuropathology Association, and a member of the KBRI Neuropathology Research Fellow. It is conducting active research activities at home and abroad.

The new head of the Brain Bank of Korea Kim Se-hoon said, “By inheriting the efforts of the former bank presidents, we developed the Korea Brain Bank as a national brain science research platform with global competitiveness, and provided high-quality brain research resources to contribute to the investigation of the causes of brain diseases. We will be the Brain Bank of Korea that always strives to contribute to improvement.”
