6일 포스코에 따르면 정상 조업 체계가 완성되며 모처럼 마음 편한 주말을 맞은 포항제철소직원 101명은 지난 1월 28일과 2월 4일, 양일에 걸쳐 봉사활동에 나섰다.

양일간 목공예 봉사단은 기계면에 위치한 목공방에서 해도 지역 차상위 계층 청소년에게 전달할 책상과 책장을 제작했다.

2019년 창단한 목공예 봉사단은 매주 토요일마다 포항지역 저소득 가정 및 아동센터에 필요한 가구를 직접 제작, 기증하고 있다. 가구를 조립하고 다듬는 과정은 손이 많이 가지만, 직원들은 책상을 보고 기뻐할 아이들을 생각하며 입춘의 늦추위도 녹일 뜨거운 열정으로 제작에 임했다.

뜨거운 열정은 해도동에 위치한 포항시 장애인종합복지관에서도 느낄 수 있었다. 25년이라는 유구한 전통을 가진 사랑의 붕어빵 재능봉사단이 붕어빵 만들기 행사를 다시 시작했기 때문이다. 오랜만에 얼굴을 마주한 봉사단원과 복지관 이용객들은 붕어빵을 주고 받으며 이야기 꽃을 피우기도 했다.

한 어르신은 "거의 매주 보던 얼굴을 못 보니까 참 보고싶었다"면서 "수해 복구 다 하고 이렇게 무사히 다시 만나니 더 반갑다. 1년은 못 볼 줄 알았는데, 정말 고생이 많았다"며 다독였다.

한 봉사단원은 "수해 복구 기간 동안 많은 시민들의 격려와 응원을 받으며, 지역사회가 제철소를 향해 보내주는  사랑을 느낄 수 있었다" 면서, "그 사랑에 보답하고 싶은 마음에 더 빨리 봉사활동을 다시 시작하고 싶었다"고 설명했다.

한편, 목공예, 붕어빵 봉사단 외에도 포스코 직원들은 포항 지역에서 43개 재능 봉사단을 운영하며 다양한 상생 활동을 펼치고 있다. 지난 해 기준, 3천여명의 임직원이 11만여 시간의 봉사활동을 펼치기도 했다. 올해 20주년을 맞이하는 포스코 봉사단은 앞으로도 지역사회와 소통하는 봉사활동을 펼칠 예정이다.

Pohang Works resumes weekend talent volunteer activities

For two days, the carpentry volunteers made desks and bookshelves to deliver to the next-class youths in the Haedo region at the carpentry shop located in Machinery-myeon.

Founded in 2019, the Woodcraft Volunteer Corps directly manufactures and donates furniture necessary for low-income families and children's centers in Pohang every Saturday. The process of assembling and refining the furniture takes a lot of work, but the staff worked on the production with great enthusiasm, thinking of the children who would be delighted to see the desk, and melting the slowness of Ipchun.

The passion was felt at the Welfare Center for the Disabled in Pohang, located in Haedo-dong. This is because the Taiyaki Talent Volunteer Group of Love, which has a long tradition of 25 years, started the Taiyaki making event again. Volunteers and welfare center users, who had met face-to-face after a long time, exchanged taiyaki and talked.

An elderly person said, "I missed the face because I couldn't see the face I used to see almost every week."

A member of the volunteer group said, “I received encouragement and support from many citizens during the flood recovery period, and I could feel the love that the local community sent to the steel mill.” I wanted to," he explained.

Meanwhile, in addition to the carpentry and taiyaki volunteer groups, POSCO employees are running 43 talent volunteer groups in Pohang and are carrying out various win-win activities. As of last year, about 3,000 employees performed 110,000 hours of volunteer work. The POSCO Volunteer Corps, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, plans to carry out volunteer activities to communicate with the local community.
