포항제철소 임직원들은 매주 주말마다 다양한 재능 나눔 봉사활동을 실천해오고 있는것과는 별도로 이 날 봉사활동은 포스코는 창립기념일을 맞이해 보다 의미있는 시간을 갖기위해 포스코 임직원 뿐만 아니라 임직원 가족, 포항 시민들이 참여해 봉사활동에 나선 것이다.

그 중 ‘공공시설가꾸기봉사단’은 봄맞이 환경정화 활동에 나섰다. 이 날 환호공원은 산책을 나온 시민들과, 포항시를 대표하는 랜드마크인 스페이스워크를 체험하러 온 관광객들로 북적였지만, 봉사단의 분주한 정화활동으로 공원은 내내 쾌적함을 유지했다.

‘공공시설가꾸기봉사단’은 포스코가 지원한 포항운하관, 환호공원등의 공공시설물을 대상으로 안전하고 깨끗한 환경관리를 중점적으로 해왔지만, 이 날은 특별히 봄맞이 화단가꾸기 활동도 함께 하였다. 봉사단은 환호공원 화단에 수국 200주를 심으며 산책을 나온 시민들의 발걸음을 사로잡았다.

봉사활동에 참여한 포항제철소 STS압연부 이영우 단장은 "매 주말마다 해온 봉사활동이지만 오늘이 창립기념일이라 그런지 더욱 뜻깊은것 같다. 미약하나마 재능봉사활동을 통해 지역사회 발전에 기여하고 싶다"며, "활짝 필 수국을 보며 기뻐해할 시민들을 생각하며 단원들 모두가 정성껏 임하고 있다"고 감회를 전했다.

포항 신광면에도 재능봉사의 따뜻한 봄바람이 불었다. 포스코 누리봄 이미용봉사단이 신광면에 위치한 한 요양센터를 방문하여, 거동이 불편한 어르신들을 대상으로 이발과 미용활동을 지원하였다.

누리봄 이미용봉사단은 포스코 직원 및 가족들로 구성되어 있으며 일부 단원들은 미용자격증도 보유하고 있을 만큼 전문적인 실력을 갖춘 봉사단이다. 이들은 2021년부터 1년간 포항 나눔스쿨을 통해 이론 및 실습교육을 체계적으로 받아왔으며, 작년 4월부터는 포항지역 요양병원과 자매마을 등 지역사회 도움이 필요한 곳에서 직접 이발과 염색 봉사활동을 펼치고 있다.

이미용봉사단원으로 활동 중인 연구인프라그룹 김한규 단장의 부인은 "처음에는 남편을 따라서 이미용봉사를 시작했는데, 지금은 나의 적성에도 잘 맞는거 같아, 이제는 재능봉사단 활동 날이 기다려진다"며 "이발이 끝나고 어르신들의 환한 웃음을 보면서 봉사의 기쁨을 느꼈다"고 전했다.

한 실버힐 요양병원 어르신은 " 포스코 직원들이 회사 일 하느라 바쁠텐데, 주말에 쉬지도 않고 이렇게 어려운 이웃들을 찾아와줘서 너무 감사하다. 따로 시간을 투자하여 미용을 배웠다고 들었는데 정말 대단한 거 같다. 머리도 깔끔하게 잘라주고 무엇보다 말 벗도 되어줘서 정말 소중한 시간이었다"며 감사함을 전했다.

현재 포항제철소에는 45개 재능봉사단이 있으며, 3000명이 넘는 봉사단원이 포항시를 누비며 활동중이다.

포항제철소 관계자는 "포스코는 포항시와 동반성장하는 이웃으로서, 시민들도 적극적으로 참여할 수 있는 봉사활동을 펼쳐나갈 계획"이라며 "의미있는 봉사활동을 통해 시민들과 함께 소통하며, 지역사회의 문제 해결에 앞장설 것"이라고 밝혔다.

한편 이 외에도, 사진봉사단, 코딩봉사단, 목공예봉사단 등 포항제철소 임직원 200여명이 각자의 재능을 한껏 발휘하며, 포항지역 곳곳에서 주말 재능봉사나눔이 펼쳐졌다.

Among them, the ‘Public Facility Maintenance Volunteer Group’ started environmental cleanup activities in spring. On this day, Hwanho Park was crowded with citizens who came out for a walk and tourists who came to experience the Space Walk, a landmark of Pohang City, but the park was kept pleasant throughout the period thanks to the busy cleaning activities of the volunteers.

The ‘Public Facility Maintenance Volunteer Group’ has focused on safe and clean environmental management for public facilities supported by POSCO, such as the Pohang Canal Pavilion and Hwanho Park. The volunteers planted 200 hydrangeas in a flower bed at Hwanho Park, capturing the footsteps of citizens taking a walk.

Lee Young-woo, head of the STS Rolling Department at Pohang Works, who participated in the volunteer work, said, “The volunteer work has been done every weekend, but it seems more meaningful because today is the founding anniversary. All the members are working hard, thinking of the citizens who will be happy to see hydrangeas in full bloom.”

A warm spring breeze of talent volunteering also blew in Shingwang-myeon, Pohang. The POSCO Nuribom Hairdressing Volunteer Group visited a nursing center located in Shingwang-myeon and supported haircuts and beauty activities for the elderly with mobility difficulties.

The Nuribom Hairdressing Volunteer Group is composed of POSCO employees and their families, and some members have professional skills enough to hold beauty licenses. They have systematically received theoretical and practical training through the Pohang Nanum School for one year since 2021, and since April of last year, they have been volunteering for haircuts and dyeing in places that need local help, such as nursing hospitals and sister villages in Pohang.

The wife of Kim Han-kyu, head of the research infrastructure group, who is active as a hairdressing volunteer group, said, "At first, I started hairdressing service with my husband, but now it seems to fit my aptitude well, so now I look forward to the day of the talent volunteer group." I felt the joy of volunteering when I saw the elders’ bright smiles.”

An elderly person at a Silver Hill Nursing Hospital said, “POSCO employees must be busy with their company work, but I am so grateful that they did not take a break on the weekend to visit neighbors in need. It was a really precious time for me and, more than anything, for being my friend.”

Currently, there are 45 talent volunteer groups in Pohang Works, and more than 3,000 volunteers are active in Pohang City.

An official from Pohang Works said, "POSCO plans to carry out volunteer activities that citizens can actively participate in as a neighbor that grows together with Pohang City." that,” he said.
