포항제철소는 2004년부터 매년 2회씩 헌혈 봉사를 실시해오고 있으며, 제철소 내 생산관제센터와 중앙대식당, 포스코 본사 앞에 헌혈버스를 배치해 포스코 및 협력사 직원들이 근무 중에도 편리하게 헌혈에 참여할 수 있도록 했다.

헌혈에 참여한 포항제철소 한 직원은 "자주 헌혈을 하진 못하지만, 회사에서 진행하는 캠페인을 통해 1년에 2번은 헌혈 봉사에 참여하고 있다"며 "사무실 바로 앞에 헌혈 버스가 있어서 시간도 아끼고, 좋은 일도 할 수 있어서 뿌듯하다"고 말했다.

이번 헌혈 캠페인은 대한적십자사 혈액관리본부 울산혈액원의 꼼꼼한 사전점검과 상세한 설명 하에 진행됐다. 헌혈행사를 함께 진행한 대한적십자사 서철호 팀장은 “올해 20년 째를 맞이하는 포스코 '사랑의 헌혈' 행사는 기업 사회공헌의 대표적인 모범사례라고 생각한다"며 "포스코 임직원들의 적극적인 참여에 진심으로 감사드리며, 포스코의 생명나눔 활동이 사회 전반적으로 확산되길 기대한다"고 밝혔다.

한편, 지난 20년간 포항제철소 사랑의 헌혈 행사 누적 참여인원은 약 2만 5천명이며, 올해 하반기에도 ‘사랑의 헌혈’ 행사를 실시할 예정이다.
