베이킹프렌즈 봉사단은 2019년 7월부터 포항 지역 아동센터를 정기적으로 찾아 직접 만든 빵과 과자를 기부해 오고 있다. 단원들은 매월 한 차례 모여 제빵 봉사를 진행하며, 단순한 물품 전달을 넘어 아이들에게 즐거움과 활력을 전하는 데 중점을 두고 활동을 이어가고 있다.

이 같은 꾸준한 공로는 지난달 포항제철소 ‘올해의 봉사상’ 수상으로도 입증됐다. 이 상은 구성원 참여도와 봉사 성과, 사회공헌 효과 등을 종합 평가해 지속적인 나눔을 실천한 봉사단체와 개인에게 수여된다. 같은 해 참사랑교통봉사단도 단체상을 수상하며 포항제철소의 탄탄한 봉사 문화를 보여줬다.

봉사단은 계절과 아이들의 선호를 반영한 다양한 제빵 활동을 펼치고 있다. 최근에는 크리스마스를 맞아 ‘메리 크리스마스 케이크’ 150개를 제작해 대도동 ‘행복한 홈스쿨 지역아동센터’와 ‘다정다감 지역아동센터’, 상도동 ‘열린지역아동센터’에 전달했다. 이 밖에도 수건 케이크, 머핀, 소금빵 등을 회당 약 200개씩 만들어 정기적으로 기부하고 있다.

이예은 베이킹프렌즈 봉사단장은 “아이들에게 빵을 나누며 달콤한 시간을 선물하는 것이 단원들에게도 큰 보람이 된다”며 “앞으로도 지역 아이들과 함께하는 따뜻한 나눔을 꾸준히 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

베이킹프렌즈 봉사단은 이번 봉사상 수상으로 받은 포상금을 활용해 1~3월 정기 봉사 기간 동안 그동안 지원이 어려웠던 포항시 기계면과 청하면 지역아동센터에도 추가로 간식을 지원할 계획이다.

한편, 포항제철소는 베이킹프렌즈 봉사단을 포함해 42개의 재능봉사단을 운영하고 있으며, 지난해 누적 봉사 시간은 약 15만 시간을 기록하는 등 지역 사회와의 상생을 실천하고 있다.

That same year, the True Love Transportation Volunteer Group also received a group award, demonstrating Pohang Steelworks' robust volunteer culture.

The volunteer group engages in a variety of baking activities reflecting the season and children's preferences. Recently, for Christmas, they made 150 "Merry Christmas Cakes" and delivered them to the "Happy Homeschool Community Children's Center" and "Dajeongdagam Community Children's Center" in Daedo-dong, and the "Open Community Children's Center" in Sangdo-dong. Additionally, they regularly donate approximately 200 towel cakes, muffins, and salt bread per group.

Lee Ye-eun, head of the Baking Friends volunteer group, said, "Sharing bread with children and giving them a sweet moment is deeply rewarding for the members. We will continue to share this heartwarming experience with local children."

The Baking Friends volunteer group plans to use the prize money from this award to provide additional snacks to the Gije-myeon and Cheongha-myeon Community Children's Centers in Pohang City, which have been difficult to support in the past, during their regular volunteer period from January to March.

Meanwhile, Pohang Iron and Steel Company operates 42 volunteer groups, including the Baking Friends Volunteer Group, and is practicing coexistence with the local community, recording approximately 150,000 cumulative volunteer hours last year.
