【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=박남식 신임 포항제철소장이 9일 포스코 본사 대회의장에서 열린 취임식에서 “포항제철소가 중대한 변곡점을 맞이한 시기에 중책을 맡게 되어 영광이지만 무거운 책임도 느낀다”며 “안전, 소통, 혁신, 상생을 바탕으로 지속가능한 제철소를 만들어 가겠다”고 밝혔다.

박 소장은 최우선 과제로 실행 중심의 실질적 안전관리 체제 내재화를 제시했다. 그는 작업 단계별 역할과 책임을 명확히 해 안전관리 사각지대를 해소하고, 안전이 제철소의 일상 속에 깊이 자리 잡도록 하겠다고 강조했다.

또한 조직문화 혁신을 위해 “집단지성을 활용하는 문화를 정착시키고 자율·창의적 근무 분위기를 조성하겠다”며 “조직 간 경계를 허물고 모두가 ‘원팀 포스코맨’으로 외부 환경 변화에 신속하게 대응하자”고 말했다.

이어 혁신과 체질 개선을 통한 지속가능한 생산체계 구축도 핵심 과제로 제시했다. 그는 예측 가능한 조업체계 마련과 기술혁신을 통한 슬라브 제조원가 절감, 적자 제품 최소화, 친환경 제품으로의 전환 등을 통해 어떠한 시황에서도 수익을 창출할 수 있는 구조를 완성하겠다고 밝혔다. 아울러 디지털 전환 가속화를 통한 비효율 개선과 설비 강건화도 추진하겠다고 덧붙였다.

박 소장은 지역사회와의 상생도 강조했다. 그는 “지역사회가 있었기에 포항제철소가 있다”며 “어려운 시기마다 지지해준 지역사회에 안정적 성장으로 보답하고, 함께 발전하는 지속가능한 공동체를 만들겠다”고 말했다.

취임사를 마무리하며 그는 “마음을 하나로 모은다면 해내지 못할 일이 없다”며 “불모지에서 포항제철소를 일으킨 선배들의 도전 정신을 본받아 새로운 미래를 열어가자”고 임직원들에게 당부했다.

한편 박남식 소장은 1992년 포스코에 입사해 포항제철소 공정품질서비스실, 수주공정물류실, 글로벌마케팅조정실 그룹장 등을 역임했다. 이후 광양제철소 생산기술부 부장, 판매생산조정실 실장, 포항제철소 공정품질담당 부소장 등을 거쳐 이번에 포항제철소장에 취임했다.

He stated, "We will create a predictable production system, lower slab manufacturing costs through technological innovation, and minimize loss-making products and boldly transition to eco-friendly products to complete a production system that can generate profits in any market." He also announced plans to accelerate digital transformation and improve inefficiencies, transforming the steelworks into a resilient steelworks.

President Park also pledged to foster a community culture that grows together with the local community, emphasizing, "Pohang Steelworks exists because of the local community." He emphasized, "We will repay the local community for their unwavering support and encouragement through stable growth and build a sustainable community where we can thrive together."

President Park Nam-sik concluded his inaugural address with words of encouragement, saying, "If we unite, there is nothing we cannot accomplish." He added, "Let's emulate the challenging spirit of our predecessors who built Pohang Steelworks from barren land and open a new future."
