【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=한국장학재단(이사장 배병일)과 호주대사관(주한 호주대사 내정자 제프 로빈슨)은 오는 2월 29일 오전 10시 서울 중구 연세세브란스빌딩지하 1층 대회의실에서노벨상 수상자인 배리 마셜(Barry James Marshall)박사를 초청하여 이공계 국가우수장학생 대상 특별강연을공동으로 개최한다고 22일 밝혔다.

배리 마셜 박사는 헬리코박터 파일로리균을 발견한공로로 2005년 노벨 생리학·의학상을 수상한 바 있으며, 노벨상 수상 이후에도 다양한 학술연구와 저서, 강연 활동을 이어가고 있다. 한편,국내에서는 한 식음료 기업의 광고모델로도 활동한 경력이 있어서우리에게는 매우 친숙한 인물이다.

배리 마셜 박사의 방한에 맞춰 진행되는 특별강연은 이공계 국가우수장학생들에게 희망과 자신감을 심어주고, 학문적 도전을 멈추지 않도록 동기를 부여하자는 취지로 호주대사관과 한국장학재단의긴밀한 협력을 통해 진행하게 되었다.

이번 강연에서 배리 마셜 박사는 “Innovation and Curiosity Driven Research”를 주제로 과학자로서의 도전과 성장, 자신의 노벨상 수상 경험을 장학생들과 공유할 예정이다.
