【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=교육부(부총리 겸 교육부장관 이주호)와 한국장학재단(이사장 배병일)은 2025학년도 1학기 학자금대출 신청을 지난 1월 3일부터 시작한 결과, 3월 말 기준 총 1조 610억 원의 대출 지원액을 기록했다고 14일 밝혔다.

이는 전년 동기 대비 581억 원(5.8%) 증가한 수치로, 최근 10년 내 가장 빠른 1조 원 돌파 기록이다.

등록금 대출액은 학부생 178억 원(4.7%), 대학원생 229억 원(7.9%) 증가했으며, 생활비 대출도 학부생 118억 원(4.4%), 대학원생 56억 원(8.3%) 늘었다. 1인당 평균 대출액도 학부생은 2.2% 증가한 5만 원, 대학원생은 1.1% 증가한 4만 원으로 나타났다.

재단은 이 같은 증가 배경으로 대학(원) 등록금 인상과 경기 악화에 따른 실수요 확대를 지목했다.

학자금대출 신청은 한국장학재단 누리집(www.kosaf.go.kr) 또는 모바일 앱을 통해 접수할 수 있으며, 등록금 대출은 4월 24일(목), 생활비 대출은 5월 20일(화)까지 신청 가능하다. 관련 문의는 고객상담센터(☎1599-2000)를 통해 맞춤형 상담을 받을 수 있다.

배병일 한국장학재단 이사장은 “학령인구 감소와 국가장학금 확대 등 여러 여건에도 불구하고, 생활비 대출 한도 확대와 학점은행제 학습자 대출 복수기관 지원 등 제도 개선을 통해 성과를 거둘 수 있었다”고 평가했다.

그는 이어 “학생들의 학업 지속을 지원하고, 청년층의 대출 상환 부담을 줄이기 위한 학자금대출 제도 운영을 지속적으로 개선해 나가겠다”고 덧붙였다.
