【브레이크뉴스 안동】이성현 기자=안동시의회(의장 김경도)는 23일 오후 의회 전정에서 성명서를 발표하고, 정부의 미국산 사과 수입 검토 방침 철회를 강력히 촉구했다.

시의회는 성명서를 통해 “정부의 수입 검토 소식은 사과 주산지인 안동 지역 농가에 크나큰 충격과 실망을 안겼다”며 “이는 단순한 경제적 문제가 아닌, 지역 농업 기반과 농민 생존권을 위협하는 심각한 사안”이라고 지적했다.

특히 최근 안동을 포함한 전국 과수농가가 초대형 산불, 저온 피해, 우박, 병해충 등의 이중고를 겪고 있는 가운데, 외국산 사과 수입은 국내 과수 산업 전반에 돌이킬 수 없는 타격을 줄 수 있다고 우려했다.

이에 따라 시의회는 ▲미국산 사과 수입 검토 전면 철회 ▲농산물의 통상 협상 대상 제외 ▲사과 산업 보호를 위한 법적‧제도적 대책 마련을 정부에 강력히 요구했다.

성명 발표에 앞서 시의회는 안동사과발전협의회 최영철 회장, 사과생산자협의회 이중덕 회장, 전국사과생산자협회 황상기 중앙회 부회장, 농협 안동시지부 이광현 지부장 등과 간담회를 갖고 사과 산업의 현안과 대응 방안을 논의했다.

김경도 의장은 “안동은 전국 최대 규모의 사과 생산지이자 대한민국 과수 산업의 중심지”라며 “이번 성명을 통해 지역 농업을 지키겠다는 의회의 단호한 입장을 표명했으며, 앞으로도 농업인들의 목소리를 대변하고 보호하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

안동시의회는 향후에도 지역 농업 보호를 위한 입법·정책적 대응에 적극 나서겠다고 강조했다.

Chairman Kim Gyeong-do said, “Andong is the largest apple producing region in the country and the center of the fruit industry in Korea,” and “Through this statement, we have expressed the council’s firm stance to protect local agriculture, and we will continue to do our best to represent and protect the voices of farmers.”
