이 예비후보는 ‘경북교육살리기 70일 대장정’ 10일차를 맞아 “4월 3일부터 6일까지 열리는 경북도민체육대회를 통해 도민들이 화합을 다지고 안전하게 즐기는 성공적인 대회가 되길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
그는 청소년 신체활동 부족 문제를 지적하며 정책 필요성을 강조했다. 이 후보는 세계보건기구 조사 결과를 인용해 “한국 청소년의 신체활동 부족률이 세계 최고 수준”이라며 “과도한 학업 부담과 입시 중심 교육, 체육시설 접근성 부족 등이 주요 원인”이라고 분석했다.
이에 대한 대안으로 ‘1학생 1스포츠 활동’ 지원을 핵심 공약으로 제시했다. 이 후보는 “스포츠 활동은 단순한 운동을 넘어 학생들의 신체 발달과 정서적 회복탄력성을 높이는 중요한 요소”라며 “모든 학생이 최소 1종목 이상의 스포츠에 참여할 수 있도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
또한 정규 교육과정 내 체육수업에 스포츠 전문가를 지원하는 사업을 추진해 실질적인 참여 기회를 확대하겠다는 계획이다. 아울러 학교 체육시설과 장비 개선, 학교스포츠클럽 활성화를 통해 평생체육 기반을 구축하겠다는 구상도 내놨다.
이용기 예비후보는 “차별 없이 누구나 스포츠 활동에 참여할 수 있는 환경을 조성하고, 이를 통해 학생들의 전인적 성장을 지원하겠다”며 “건강한 학교 문화를 만들기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조했다.
한편 이 후보는 31년간 중·고등학교 현장에서 근무한 교사 출신으로, 전국교직원노동조합 경북지부장을 역임했으며 현재 전국교육자치혁신연대 공동대표와 경북혁신교육연구소 공감 소장을 맡고 있다. 지난해 12월에는 ‘경북교육희망 2026’ 경선에서 민주진보 단일후보로 선출됐다.

Lee Yong-gi, a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Progressive Party's Superintendent of Education in Gyeongbuk, has presented an education pledge centered on expanding physical activities for students.
Marking the 10th day of his "70-Day Grand March to Revitalize Gyeongbuk Education," Candidate Lee stated, "I hope the Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival, held from April 3 to 6, will be a successful event where residents can strengthen harmony and enjoy themselves safely."
He pointed out the issue of insufficient physical activity among youth and emphasized the need for such policies. Citing World Health Organization (WHO) survey results, Candidate Lee analyzed that "the rate of physical inactivity among Korean youth is the highest in the world," identifying "excessive academic burden, entrance exam-centered education, and lack of accessibility to sports facilities as major causes."
As an alternative to this, he proposed supporting the "One Student, One Sport Activity" initiative as his core pledge. Candidate Lee stated, “Sports activities are more than just exercise; they are a crucial factor in enhancing students’ physical development and emotional resilience,” adding, “I will ensure that every student participates in at least one sport.”
He also plans to expand opportunities for practical participation by promoting a project to provide sports experts for physical education classes within the regular curriculum. Furthermore, he presented a vision to build a foundation for lifelong physical education through the improvement of school sports facilities and equipment, as well as the revitalization of school sports clubs.
Preliminary Candidate Lee Yong-gi emphasized, “I will create an environment where anyone can participate in sports activities without discrimination, and through this, support the holistic growth of students,” adding, “I will do my utmost to build a healthy school culture.”
Meanwhile, Candidate Lee is a former teacher who worked in middle and high schools for 31 years. He served as the head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (KTU) and currently serves as a co-representative of the National Alliance for Educational Autonomy Innovation and as the director of the Gyeongbuk Innovation Education Research Institute, Gonggam. Last December, he was selected as the unified candidate for the Democratic Progressive bloc in the ‘Gyeongbuk Education Hope 2026’ primary.
