이 후보는 “세월호 참사의 진실을 밝히려는 유가족과 국민의 노력을 결코 잊어서는 안 된다”며 “과거 전국교직원노동조합 경북지부장으로 재직 당시 진상규명과 특별법 제정을 위해 대통령 면담 요구, 청와대 앞 농성, 단식투쟁, 서명운동, 촛불집회 등 다양한 활동을 전개했다”고 밝혔다.
이어 “이 같은 비극이 반복되지 않도록 제도 정비와 사회적 시스템 구축이 필요하다”며 “피해자 지원과 함께 안전한 사회 체계를 강화하고, 진상규명과 연대를 지속해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
특히 교육 분야와 관련해 “생명 존중을 기반으로 한 실질적인 안전교육이 필요하다”며 “단순 이론이나 형식적 대피훈련을 넘어 재난 상황에서 스스로를 보호하고 타인을 도울 수 있는 능동적 대응 역량을 키우는 실전형 교육을 추진하겠다”고 강조했다.
이 후보는 안전한 학교 조성을 위한 공약으로 △학교 안전사고 통계 기반 교육자료 개발 △체험학습 안전전담요원 배치 및 인솔교사 면책 보장 법 개정 △학교 시설 개·증축 시 교육주체 의견 반영 △안전성 중심 공간 확보 및 건축 △교육지원청 주관 안전보건 위험성 평가 도입 등을 제시했다.
또 “오랜 교직 경험을 바탕으로 현장 중심의 안전 시스템을 강화해 학교 안팎의 위기 요인을 제거하고, 모두가 안심할 수 있는 교육환경을 조성하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
한편 이 후보는 31년간 중·고등학교에서 근무한 평교사 출신으로, 전국교직원노동조합 경북지부장을 역임했으며 현재 경북혁신교육연구소 공감 소장과 전국교육자치혁신연대 공동대표를 맡고 있다. 지난해 12월에는 ‘경북교육희망 2026’ 경선에서 민주진보 단일후보로 선출됐다.

As pledges to create safe schools, Candidate Lee proposed: △developing educational materials based on school safety accident statistics; △revising laws to deploy dedicated safety personnel for experiential learning and guarantee immunity for supervising teachers; △reflecting the opinions of educational stakeholders during the renovation or expansion of school facilities; △securing safety-focused spaces and construction; and △introducing safety and health risk assessments led by the Office of Education.
He further added, “Based on my extensive experience in the teaching profession, I will strengthen field-oriented safety systems to eliminate risk factors both inside and outside schools, and create an educational environment where everyone can feel secure.”
** Meanwhile, Candidate Lee is a former regular teacher who worked in middle and high schools for 31 years. He served as the head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union and currently serves as the director of the Gyeongbuk Innovation Education Research Institute Gonggam and as a co-representative of the National Alliance for Educational Autonomy Innovation. Last December, he was selected as the unified democratic progressive candidate in the ‘Gyeongbuk Education Hope 2026’ primary.
