【Break News Pohang】Reporter Park Young-jae = Lee Sang-hae, a candidate from the Pohang Saemaul Association, has been elected as the new chairman of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Saemaul Association.
The Gyeongbuk Saemaul Association announced on the 8th that Lee was confirmed as the new chairman through an election held at an extraordinary general meeting on the 3rd.
As the new chairman, Lee plans to strengthen field-oriented Saemaul Movement activities across 22 cities and counties in the province and promote various projects aimed at regional development and revitalizing local communities.
The Gyeongbuk Saemaul Association is a non-profit civic organization that promotes regional development, welfare enhancement, and environmental improvement based on the values of diligence, self-help, and cooperation. It was established during the spread of the Saemaul Movement in the 1970s. Currently, it continues to carry out various activities such as environmental cleanup campaigns, support for vulnerable groups, disaster relief, and leadership training through its networks in cities, counties, and 읍·면·동 (towns and neighborhoods).
Recently, the organization has also been expanding its initiatives to reflect changing times, including carbon neutrality practices and energy-saving campaigns.
Chairman Lee has previously served as head of the 읍·면·동 council of the Pohang City Sports Council, senior vice chairman of its finance committee, chairman of the Pohang Development Advisory Council Federation, head of the Pohang Rugby Association, and a mediation committee member at the Pohang branch of the Daegu District Court.
Lee stated, “I will prioritize communication and trust, and work to build an organization where everyone participates together by reflecting diverse voices from the field.”
