편지에는 “경찰 아저씨께, 안녕하세요? 초등학교 2학년 민희(가명)예요. 제 털잠바와 핸드폰을 찾아주셔서 감사합니다. 못 찾을 줄 알았는데 경찰 아저씨가 찾아주신다 하니 정말정말 기뻤어요.제 동생의 꿈이 경찰인데 동생도 경찰 아저씨 같은 사람이 되면 좋겠어요. 정말～ 감사합니다. 그럼 이만 안녕히 계세요. 

2020. 11. 18. 수 민희 올림”이라고 적혀 있었다.

경찰에 따르면 경기도 화성시에 거주하는 민희는 가족들과 함께 관광명소 경주 보문단지에 여행을 와서 즐거운 시간을 보낸 후 다시 화성시로 돌아갔다.

하지만 집에 도착 후 점퍼와 휴대폰을 보문 호수공원에 놓고 온 것을 알게 되었고, 즉시 보문파출소에 분실신고를 했다.

보문파출소 경찰관들은 보문 호수공원 주변을 샅샅이 살펴보기 시작, 공원 한쪽에 놓여있던 분실품을 발견하고, 물건을 택배로 보내주었다.

그로부터 며칠 후 보문파출소에는 손편지와 함께 정성스럽게 포장한 작은 사탕주머니들이 배달된 것이다.

민희의 어머니는 경찰관과 주고받은 문자에서“택배 잘 받았습니다, 경찰관님. 뽁뽁이까지 잘 해주셔서 정말 감동 받았습니다,”

“별거 아닙니다. 아이의 소박한 보답이라 생각해주세요! 다시 한번 감사드리고 경찰관님들 응원하겠습니다!”

응원 메시지를 받은 경찰관은 “누군가의 꿈이자, 누군가의 행복을 위해 오늘도 우리들은 국민에게 봉사합니다.”라고 적었다.
