경북소방본부가 산불 재발화를 막기 위해 소방차 배치, 예방 순찰 및 예비주수 등 다양한 활동을 하고 있는 가운데 119특수구조단에서 운용 중인 드론의 활약이 큰 눈길을 끌고 있다.

14일 경북소방본부에 따르면 119특수구조단은 열화상 카메라가가 부착된 드론을 활용, 불길 방향을 미리 예측해 인명대피 유도 및 재산피해를 최소화하고, 화마가 휩쓸고 간 산림 속에 남아있는 잔불을 확인해 신속히 제거함으로써 진압작전에 효율을 더했다.

또 재난 현장의 생생한 영상을 실시간 지휘부에 전송해 진화작전을 효과적으로 수행하는 데 큰 역할도 하고 있다.

실제, 지난 4일 울진군 산불 피해 현장을 드론으로 촬영하던 중 마을에서 미쳐 빠져나오지 못한 어르신 2분을 확인하고 즉시 구조했다.

또 지난 8일 21시 30분경에는 울진 두천리 인근에서 이상한 냄새를 감지하고 드론의 열화상 카메라로 촬영한 바, 불씨가 확인돼 신속히 진압해 화재 확산을 방지하기도 했다.

한편, 경북소방본부는 열화상 기능과 줌 카메라 기능을 가진 19기의 드론을 보유하고 있으며, 지난 2017년 처음 도입된 이후 화재현장 및 산악 실종자 수색 등 200여 건의 현장 활동에 활용했다.

이영팔 경북도 소방본부장은 “산불뿐만 아니라 복잡 다양한 모든 재난현장에 소방 드론의 역할은 갈수록 증가하는 만큼 재난대응 시스템에도 드론 등 4차 산업기술을 적극 활용하겠다”고 밝혔다.
