선거캠프부터 지역주민들이 자발적 참여한 이른바 '주민캠프'로 구성된 것에서부터 정치와는 거리가 있는 평범한 주민들이 자발적으로 선거운동을 주도하는 주민참여방식이 그것. 지난 19일에는 동네주민과 함께 하는 선거 출정식도 가졌다. 

성유정 자원봉사단장은 "4년 동안 일 잘한다고 검증된 후보를 주민들이 포기할 수는 없었다. 주민후보로 반드시 당선시키겠다"라며 ‘왜 주민 후보인가’를 항변했다.

 유세차량 역시 기존 후보들과는 달리 소형트럭인 라보를 개조해 캐릭터화시킨 이른바 '캐릭터 꼬마유세차‘. 이 또한 주민들의 아이디어로 출발했다는 후문이다.

 박정권 후보 주민캠프 최종태 총괄본부장은 "박정권 후보는 무소속이 아니다. 동네주민이 후보를 직접 선출하고, 주민참여 후원회 결성부터 선거운동 참여, 심지어 동네에 필요한 공약까지 담아낸 명실상부 주민 후보로, 지방자치 취지에 맞는 주민생활정치의 새로운 이정표가 될 것"이라며 이번 주민참여형 선거운동의 의의를 전하고 있다.

 한편, 박정권 후보는 현역 수성구의원으로 소속정당인 더불어민주당의 청년단수로 공천탈락하자, 주민들이 무소속 출마를 요구해 이번 선거에 이른바 ’주민후보‘로 출마했다.
