대구 달성군에도 전통의 아름다움에 한껏 빠져들 수 있는 옛 건축물이 가득하다. 초여름에도 한낮의 더위를 잊고 시간을 보내기 좋은지역의 특색 있는 장소들을 일부 소개한다.

기념우표로도 화제 모은 달성 삼가헌 고택

삼가헌은 하빈면 묘리 묘골마을 인근에 자리한 조선시대 가옥으로,사대부 가옥의 특징이 잘 나타나는 곳이다. 묘골마을은 사육신 중 한 사람인 충정공 박팽년의 후손들이 모여 사는 순천 박씨 집성촌이다.

삼가헌이라는 이름은 박팽년의 11대손인 박성수의 호를 딴 것이다.삼가헌은 1769년 초가 형태로 지어졌으며, 1826년 초가를 헐고 안채와 사랑채를 만들었다. 이때 흙을 파낸 자리는 연을 심은 호수로 가꾸었다.‘연꽃잎의 정자'라는 뜻의 하엽정(荷葉亭) 역시 여기서 유래한 이름이다.

삼가헌은 봄에는 배롱나무꽃이, 여름엔 연꽃이 가득 피어 계절마다 새로운얼굴을 자랑한다. 이곳의 아름다운 풍경은 지난달 24일 과학기술정보통신부우정사업본부의 기념우표 ‘한국의 옛 건축(정자)'으로 발행돼 우표 마니아들의 시선을 사로잡기도 했다.

사육신 정신이 살아 숨 쉬는 육신사

커다란 홍살문이 위엄을 뽐내는 육신사 역시 하빈면 묘리에 자리하고 있다. 이곳은 사육신 박팽년, 성삼문, 이개, 유성원, 하위지, 유응부의 위패를 모신 사당이다.

육신사는 숭정당, 사랑채, 외삼문, 내삼문 등의 건물로 이뤄져 있다. 별당건축인 태고정은 2019년도에 보물로 지정됐으며, 조선 전기 건축의 특징을 잘 나타내 건축사적인 가치가 크다.

육신사 인근에는 박팽년의 후손이 직접 운영하는 카페가 있다. 전통 재료에 현대적인 감각을 더한 디저트가 특징이다.

400년 은행나무가 있는 한국의 대표 서원, 도동서원

구지면에 있는 도동서원은 조선 전기의 학자 한훤당 김굉필의 도학과 덕행을 기리기 위해 세운 서원이다. ‘도동(道東)'은 공자의 도가 동쪽으로왔다(東來)는 뜻이다.

2007년에 사적으로 지정된 도동서원은 우리나라 서원 중 건축적 완성도가가장 우수하다는 평가를 받는다. 서원 앞에는 수령 400년의 은행나무가 서 있어 매년 가을 황금빛 자태로 사람들의 발길을 붙잡는다. 대만 등 해외 관광객들이 한국 전통문화를 체험하기 위해 단체로 이곳을 방문하기도한다.

2019년 7월에는 전국 8개 서원과 함께 ‘한국의 서원’이라는 이름으로유네스코 세계유산에 등재되었다.

한옥 체험으로 정취 느끼는 한훤당 고택

한훤당 고택은 한훤당 김굉필의 11세손 김정제가 1779년 구지면 도동리에서현풍읍 지리로 이주하면서 생긴 서흥 김씨 집성촌 내 주택이다. 한국전쟁당시 건물 일부가 소실되기도 했으나, 종택 내 사당은 지금까지도 훼손 없이옛 모습을 잘 유지하고 있어 연구 자료로서 가치가 높다고 전해진다.

고택은 사랑채, 주거 공간, 사당이 자리한 제향 공간 등 크게 3개 영역으로구분된다. 전체적으로 튼 ‘ㅁ’자형의 배치를 하고 있다.

한훤당 고택은 한옥스테이 숙소 및 카페로 활용 중이다. 역사책 안이 아닌 우리 일상 속 한옥으로 살아 숨 쉬는 것이다. 방문객들은 이곳에서고즈넉한 분위기를 즐기며 전통문화를 몸으로 느낄 수 있다.

Dalseong Samgaheon Old House, which also attracted attention as a commemorative stamp

  Samgaheon is a house from the Joseon Dynasty located near Myogol Village in Myo-ri, Habin-myeon, and is a place that clearly displays the characteristics of the houses of noblemen. Myogol Village is a village of the Park clan in Suncheon where the descendants of Park Paeng-nyeon, one of the six kings of Sayuksin, live together.

  The name Samgaheon is named after Park Seong-su, the 11th generation descendant of Park Paeng-nyeon. Samgaheon was built in the form of a thatched roof in 1769, and in 1826, the thatched roof was torn down to create the main house and sarangchae. At this time, the area where the soil was dug up was turned into a lake where kites were planted. The name Hayeopjeong (荷葉亭), meaning ‘lotus petal pavilion’, also originated here.

  Samgaheon boasts a new face every season, with crape myrtle flowers blooming in spring and lotus flowers blooming in summer. The beautiful scenery here caught the attention of stamp enthusiasts when it was issued as a commemorative stamp ‘Korea’s Old Architecture (Jeongja)’ by the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Post Office on the 24th of last month.

  Yuksinsa Temple, with its majestic large red gate, is also located in Myo-ri, Habin-myeon. This is a shrine that enshrines the memorial tablets of the six gods, Park Paeng-nyeon, Seong Sam-mun, Lee Gae, Yu Seong-won, Hawi-ji, and Yu Eung-bu.

  Yuksinsa Temple consists of buildings such as Sungjeongdang, Sarangchae, Oesammun, and Naesammun. Taegojeong, a separate building, was designated as a national treasure in 2019 and has great architectural historical value as it well represents the characteristics of architecture in the early Joseon Dynasty.

  Near Yuksinsa Temple, there is a cafe run by Park Paeng-nyeon's descendants. It features desserts that add a modern sensibility to traditional ingredients.

Dodong Seowon, Korea's representative Seowon with a 400-year-old ginkgo tree

  Dodongseowon, located in Gujimyeon, is a seowon built to commemorate the moral philosophy and virtue of Han Hwon-dang Kim Gyeong-pil, a scholar of the early Joseon Dynasty. ‘Taodong (道東)’ means that Confucius’s path came to the east (東來).

  Dodong Seowon, which was designated as a historic site in 2007, is evaluated as having the highest level of architectural perfection among Korean seowons. In front of the seowon, there is a 400-year-old ginkgo tree that attracts people every fall with its golden appearance. Tourists from overseas, including Taiwan, sometimes visit here in groups to experience Korean traditional culture.

  In July 2019, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name ‘Korean Seowon’ along with eight other Seowon across the country.

Hanhwondang old house where you can feel the atmosphere through Hanok experience

  Hanhwondang Old House is a house within the Seoheung Kim clan village that was built when Kim Jeong-je, the 11th generation descendant of Hanhwondang Kim Gyeong-pil, moved from Dodong-ri, Gumyeon-do to Jiri, Hyeonpung-eup, in 1779. Although part of the building was burned down during the Korean War, the shrine within the head house has maintained its original appearance without damage and is said to be of high value as research material.

  The old house is largely divided into three areas: the sarangchae, the residential space, and the ancestral rite space where the shrine is located. The overall layout is in a straight ‘ㅁ’ shape.

  Hanhwondang's old house is being used as a Hanok stay accommodation and cafe. It is a living, breathing hanok in our daily lives, not in history books. Visitors can enjoy the quiet atmosphere here and experience traditional culture.
