대한민국 제1호 관광단지인 보문관광단지는 지난 50년간 대한민국 관광의 중심지로서 중추적인 역할을 해왔으며, 50주년을 기념하여 다양한 국제회의와 행사를 유치하고, 국내외 관광객을 더욱 활발히 유치하기 위해 공사의 역량을 집중하고 있다.

이에 공사는 한국관광공사를 비롯한 경북도, 시·군 등 유관 기관과의 협조체계를 구축하고, 다양한 행사를 논의하고 있다.

지난 13일에는 한국관광공사를 방문해 이학주 국제관광본부장과 2025년 경주 보문관광단지 개장 50주년을 맞아 추진 중인 '대한민국 관광 반세기 프로젝트'에 대한 협력 사항을 논의하는 간담회를 가졌다.

간담회에서는 PATA총회, UN투어리즘 회의 등 주요 국제행사를 경주에 유치하여 보문관광단지를 글로벌 관광지로 강화할 계획을 논의했다.

또한, 한국관광공사와 협력하여 2025년에 대대적인 '보문 방문 위크'를 개최하고, 다양한 국내외행사를 통해 경주의 관광 잠재력을 극대화한다는 계획이다.

한편 공사는 보문관광단지 50주년을 기념하기 위해 ‘보문 방문 Week’ 외에도 내년 경주벚꽃마라톤과 연계한 ‘벚꽃DAY 캠핑’ 육부촌 앞 광장에서 펼쳐질 ‘옴니버스 주말 상설공연’, 단지내 야간 경관 개선사업 등 다양한 행사를 계획하고 있다.

공사에서 추진하고 있는 ‘대한민국 관광 반세기 프로젝트’ 는 우리나라 관광의 발상지인 보문관광단지와 육부촌 헤리티지를 브랜드화 마케팅하여 세계인에게 우리나라의 소중한 자산으로 각인시키고, 나아가 새로운 관광 미래 50년을 설계하는 2025년부터 2029년까지의 중장기 프로젝트이다.
