UNIDO ‘Global Call 2024’는 FOODTECH Innovation and ISID: Nourishing the Future를 주제로 개최된 글로벌 행사로 지속 가능한 식량 생산 및 유통을 위한 혁신 기술을 발굴하고 지원하는 자리로 마련됐다.

11월 20일부터 23일까지 서울 코엑스에서 열린 ‘2024 월드 푸드테크 엑스포’ 기간 동안 성황리에 진행됐으며, 이번 행사는 농림축산식품부와 서울 월드푸드테크 협의회가 공동 주최한 글로벌 행사로 세계 각국의 푸드테크 기업 및 전문가들이 참여해 첨단 기술을 선보이고 미래 식량 문제 해결을 논의했다.

대기업, 중소기업, 스타트업, 연구소 및 학술 기관 등 다양한 조직이 참여했으며 수상 분야는 △생산(Production) △제조 및 가공(Manufacturing & Processing) △유통 및 배송(Distribution & Delivery) △소비(Consumption) 등 총 4개 부문으로 구성됐다.

씨위드는 Production 부문에서 1등 상을 수상하며 국제적인 주목을 받았다. 씨위드는 해조류와 해양자원을 활용한 배양육 생산 기술로 배양육 대량생산 기술의 경제성과 효율성을 입증하며 심사위원단의 높은 평가를 받았다.

씨위드의 대표 금준호는 “씨위드는 현재 파일럿 공정을 운영 중이며 2025년까지 국내 식약처(MFDS) 승인을 목표로 대량생산을 위한 스케일업 작업을 진행하고 있다. 이번 수상은 씨위드가 추구하는 지속 가능성과 혁신의 결과물로서 앞으로도 글로벌 파트너들과 함께 기술 상용화를 가속화하고 배양육 시장을 선도해 나갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.

한편, ㈜씨위드는 배양육을 식품 원료로 개발해 다양한 제품에 활용할 수 있도록 지속적으로 연구를 진행하고 있다. 또한 ‘경북 세포배양식품 규제자유특구’ 사업자로 선정되어 정부의 지원을 바탕으로 배양육 상용화를 위해 노력하고 있으며, 경북테크노파크에서 지원 중인‘세포배양소재 상용화 기업지원’ 사업에도 선정되어 연구개발과 제품 고도화에 몰두하고 있다.

Gyeongbuk Technopark (Director Ha In-seong, hereinafter referred to as Gyeongbuk TP) announced that SeaWith Co., Ltd. won the First Place Award (United Nations Industrial Development Organization Director-General Award) in the Production category at the ‘Global Call 2024’ hosted by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization).

UNIDO ‘Global Call 2024’ is a global event held under the theme of FOODTECH Innovation and ISID: Nourishing the Future, and was designed to discover and support innovative technologies for sustainable food production and distribution.

It was held successfully during the '2024 World Food Tech Expo' held at COEX in Seoul from November 20 to 23. This event was a global event co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Seoul World Food Tech Council, where food tech companies and experts from around the world participated to showcase cutting-edge technologies and discuss solutions to future food problems.

Various organizations including large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, research institutes, and academic institutions participated, and the award categories consisted of four categories: △Production △Manufacturing & Processing △Distribution & Delivery △Consumption.

Seaweed received international attention by winning first place in the Production category. Seaweed received high praise from the judges for proving the economic feasibility and efficiency of mass-production of cultured meat technology using seaweed and marine resources.

“Seweed is currently operating a pilot process and is working on scale-up for mass production with the goal of obtaining approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) by 2025,” said Geum Jun-ho, CEO of Seaweed. “This award is the result of the sustainability and innovation that Seaweed pursues, and we will continue to accelerate technology commercialization and lead the cultured meat market together with global partners.”

Meanwhile, Seaweed Co., Ltd. is continuously conducting research to develop cultured meat as a food ingredient and use it in various products. In addition, it has been selected as a business operator of the ‘Gyeongbuk Cell Cultured Food Regulatory Free Special Zone’ and is working to commercialize cultured meat based on government support. It has also been selected for the ‘Cell Culture Material Commercialization Corporate Support’ project supported by Gyeongbuk Technopark and is focusing on research and development and product advancement.
