1일 경북소방본부에 따르면 최근 10년간 설 연휴 화재 발생 현황을 분석한 결과, 448건의 화재로 인명피해 15명(사망 4, 부상 11), 재산피해 35억 원이 발생한 것으로 집계됐다.

장소별로는 주택 35.7%(160건), 공장‧창고‧축사 등의 산업시설 15.4% (69건), 쓰레기‧볏짚 15.4%(69건), 산림‧논‧밭 등의 임야 10.9%(49건), 기타 22.6%(101건) 순으로 발생했다.

일일 평균 화재 발생 수는 평소에는 주택 1.95건, 임야 0.55건 발생했지만, 설 연휴 기간 중에는 주택 4.3건, 임야 1.3건으로 평소보다 2.3배 많이 발생하는 것으로 나타나 도민들의 각별한 주의가 필요하다.

화재요인으로는 부주의가 50.4%(226건)로 가장 큰 비중을 차지하였으며, 전기적 요인 17.2%(77건), 미상 12.9%(58건), 교통사고 10%(45건) 순으로 발생하였다. 특히 절반을 차지하는 부주의 화재의 원인으로는 불씨방치(72건), 쓰레기소각(46건), 담배꽁초(40건), 가연물 근접 방치(28건)로 나타났다.
