박승호 전 포항시장이 지난 20일 국민의힘 중앙당 최고위원회 의결을 거쳐 23일자로 복당했다고 27일 밝혔다.

박 전 시장은 지난 2020년 '4·15총선' 당시 미래통합당(전 국민의힘) 포항시남구·울릉군 지역구 국회의원 예비후보로 나서 공천을 받지 못하자, 탈당해 무소속으로 출마를 했으나 낙선했다.

박 전 시장은 지난 6월 국민의힘 이준석 대표가 최고위원회에서 "정치적 이유로 탈당 및 분당해 함께하지 못한 분들에게 문호를 열겠다"고 밝히면서 복당을 신청했으나 복당이 무산됐다.

박 전 시장은 "복당을 의결해 준 중앙당 최고위원회들과 김정재 경상북도당위원장 등 인사들에게 진심으로 감사를 드린다."며, "내년 대선에서 정권교체를 위해 윤석열 후보가 당선될 수 있도록 혼신의 노력을 경주하겠다"고 밝혔다

박승호 전 시장은 노태우대통령 당시 청와대 비서실 행정관, 봉화군수, 포항시장(민선4~5기)을 역임했다.
