【브레이크뉴스 문경】이성현 기자=문경국가무형문화재전수관은 오는 12월 17일 백산 김정옥 사기장의 도력 65주년을 기념하는 특별전을 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 전시에는 영남요 8대 국가무형문화재 전승교육사 김경식 장인의 작품도 함께 전시되며, 내년 2월 28일까지 열릴 예정이다.

전시장은 1갤러리[국가무형문화재 김정옥 사기장과 ‘궐(鱖)’], 2갤러리[9대를 이어온 300년 영남요 사기장들을 만나다], 3갤러리[도자기와 ‘궐(鱖)’의 향연]로 구성되어 있다.

이번 전시는 김정옥 사기장이 평생에 걸쳐 작업해온 쏘가리 문양인 궐(鱖)을 주제로 하고 있다.

우리 민족에게 물고기는 특별한 의미를 지닌 생물인데 물고기 문양은 풍요로움과 여유, 생명과 다산 그리고 등용과 출세처럼 밝고 긍정적인 가치를 지녀 예로부터 그림과 도자기 시문의 소재로 널리 애용되었다.

그 중에서도 한자어로 궐[鱖魚]이라고 표기하는 쏘가리는 임금이 사는 궁궐(宮闕)의 궐과 독음이 같아 입신양명을 상징하는 의미로 그려지곤 했다.

우리뿐만 아니라 중국에서도 쏘가리는 고귀하고 여유로운 삶을 의미하여 당나라 시인 장지화는 ‘복사꽃 흐르는 물에 쏘가리 살찐다(桃花流水鱖魚肥)’라는 시를 남겼다.

독특한 무늬와 강인한 형상을 지닌 쏘가리는 바위가 많고 물이 맑은 곳에 홀로 사는 우리의 토종어류로, 김정옥 사기장의 도자기에는 이 생명체가 지닌 본연의 특징이 간결하면서도 힘찬 필치로 표현되어 있다.

격식에서 벗어난 자연스러움과 소박함이 담겨 있으면서도 기운이 생동하는 강한 생명력이 느껴지는 김정옥 사기장의 쏘가리 문양은 그의 삶을 대변하는 듯하다.

시련을 인내하며 혼신의 힘으로 300년 도예 명가 영남요의 맥을 지켜온 그의 집념과 열정이 이번 특별전에서 쏘가리 문양을 통해 펼쳐진다.

이번 특별전을 기획한 백산헤리티지연구소 김남희 소장은 “분청과 철화 그리고 청화에 이르는 다양한 우리 전통 도자의 재료와 기법으로 구현된 궐(鱖)의 멋과 조형 감각을 감상하고, 이 문양이 지닌 삶의 의미를 되새겨보는 뜻깊은 기회가 되기를 기대한다”라고 밝혔다.
