이번 대회는 라오스에 한국 야구가 전파된 후 세계야구소프트볼협회에 등록된 최초 국제대회로 라오스 야구소프트볼연맹에서 주최하고 전 야구선수인 이만수 감독이 이사장으로 있는 ‘헐크파운데이션’이 주관하며 DGB금융그룹의 후원으로 개최됐다. 

이번 대회는 라오스, 베트남, 태국, 캄보디아 등 4개국이 참가하며 오는 26일까지 3일간 리그전을 펼친다.

라오스 현지 분위기는 뜨겁다. 동남아시아 최초로 개최되는 국제야구대회라는 점과 야구 대표팀이 ‘DGB Baseball Stadium(DGB야구경기장)’에서 연습경기에 매진하고 있기 때문이다.

김태오 회장은 “DGB에서 건립한 라오스 최초의 야구장에서 처음으로 국제야구대회가 개최돼 기쁘다”며 “이번 대회를 계기로 동남아시아에서 야구가 인기종목이 되기를 희망한다”고 밝혔다.
