시에 따르면 이번 공모사업은 지역에 대한 수요맞춤형(Bottom-up) 지원을 통해 지역기업의 자발적인 참여를 확대하고 경쟁력을 높이기 위한 것으로, 구미시를 포함해 전국의 3개 지자체가 선정됐다.

시는 이차전지 기업에 대한 기술지원과 원‧하청 기업간의 협업 관계를 확대하고, 각종 규제와 안정성 평가에 관한 제품 인증과 마케팅을 지원한다. 또한, 지역인재 채용비중을 높일 수 있도록 생산‧전문인력 양성과 취업연계 프로그램을 지원할 계획이다.

김장호 구미시장은 “이차전지 산업생태계 구축에 필요한 지역기업과 지역인재를 지방에서 발굴하고 육성해 지역경제 활성화를 위해 노력하겠다”고 했다.
