주요 기업으로는 ㈜엘앤에프, 미래첨단소재㈜, ㈜씨아이에스 등이 있다.

이차전지 핵심 재료인 ‘양극재’를 제조하는 엘앤에프는 2021년 1월 세계 최초 ‘하이 니켈 양극재’를 양산해 테슬라 등에 납품하고 있으며, 2018년 4억 불 수출 달성 후 4년 만에 10억 불 수출탑 수상 등 폭발적인 성장 속에 지난해 매출 4조 원을 상회한 것으로 예상된다.

양극재 첨가제와 수산화 리튬을 분쇄·가공하는 미래첨단소재는 대구에 320억 원을 투자해 수산화리튬 신공장을 증설·준공하면 생산량은 현재의 연간 1만 4천 톤에서 4만 톤 규모의 대량 생산체제를 갖추게 되며 리튬 원료 직접 확보를 통한 생산과 해외 진출도 추진한다. 

씨아이에스는 코터, 롤 프레스 등 이차전지 제조 장비 기업으로 지난해 3,370여억 원의 공급계약 체결, 2021년 동기 대비 185% 증가한 실적으로 지속적인 성장이 예상된다. 

또 ‘고체 전해질’ 및 제조 장비 개발을 위해 자회사 ‘씨아이솔리드’를 설립하고 미래 이차전지 시장 선점에 나서고 있다.

대구시도 지역 에너지 기업의 경쟁력 강화 및 미래 에너지 신산업 육성을 위해 ‘차세대 배터리 중심 에너지 기업 지원계획’을 수립했다.

또 중소벤처기업부와 공동으로 지역 중소기업을 지원하는 ‘지역특화산업육성’사업을 통해, 에너지 산업 분야에서는 지난해에 지역 에너지 기업의 이차전지 관련 6개 기술 개발 과제에 국·시비 10억여 억을 지원했다.

대구시는 올해에도 ‘지역산업 진흥계획’을 수립해 지역 중소기업의 기술 개발(R&D) 및 제품 고급화(비R&D) 지원 등을 통한 성장을 촉진할 계획이다.

이승대 대구시 혁신성장실장은 "지역 에너지 기업의 성장을 뒷받침하고, 양질의 일자리가 공급될 수 있도록 미래 에너지산업 육성을 위해 적극 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
