운문천댐은 총사업비 2,327억 원을 투입해 건설되는 용수댐으로, 총 저수량은 660만㎥, 하루 약 2만4천㎥의 용수 공급이 가능하다. 댐 건설이 완료되면 청도의 가뭄 대응 능력이 높아지고, 생활 인구 증가에도 안정적으로 대응할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

이날 현장에는 김하수 청도군수, 전종율 청도군의회 의장, 지역협의체 주민 대표 등이 함께했으며, 신규댐의 필요성과 지역 현안에 대한 다양한 의견을 제시했다.

청도군은 신규댐 건설과 더불어 ▷운문댐 하천유지수 조정 ▷상수도 배분량 재산정 ▷급수관로 설치 국비 지원 ▷광역상수도 정수장 증설 ▷송수관로(터널) 복선화 ▷노후 상수관망 정비 등을 정부 차원의 지원 과제로 건의했다.

지역협의체와 주민들도 신규댐 건설 필요성에는 공감하면서도 ▷동창천 하천유지수 조정 ▷상수도 보조사업 지원 ▷상수원보호구역 토지 매입 등 주민 의견이 충분히 반영된 사업 추진을 요구했다.

김성환 환경부 장관은 “현장 방문을 통해 사업의 필요성과 주민들의 목소리를 확인할 수 있었다”며 “신규 댐 건설은 면밀히 검토해 추진해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
