【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=새마을세계화재단(대표이사 장동희)은 캄보디아사무소가 지난 10월 23일 캄보디아 환경부 장관표창장을 수상했다고 13일 밝혔다.

캄보디아 환경부는 2015년부터 매년 환경개선에 적극 동참한 기관을 선정하여 환경평화인증서(Certificate of Environmental Peace)를 발행하고 표창장을 수여해 왔는데, 올해는 캄보디아 코카콜라, Chip Mong Group와 함께 새마을세계화재단이 선정됐다.

환경부는 지난 7월 21일부터 22일까지 새마을세계화재단의 새마을시범마을인 캄퐁톰 주의 짬박, 깜라엥, 로까 마을을 방문하여 재단이 주민 및 지역 공무원들과 함께 진행하는 쓰레기 분리수거 및 환경정비, 새마을활동 등을 확인하였고, 지난달 23일 환경평화인증서를 발행하고 표창장을 수여 했다.

새마을세계화재단은 2016년부터 이 3개 마을에서 새마을시범마을 조성사업을 시행하여 왔으며, 2018년부터는 주민 및 지역관공서와 함께 매월 ‘새마을Day’를 지정하여 주민발전회의를 개최하고 마을환경정비를 진행하여 왔다. ‘새마을Day’는 마을청소, 마을공동구역 문제해결, 취약계층 주거환경 개선 등 마을의 주요 안건들을 주민 스스로 결정하고 실행할 수 있도록 함으로써 마을주민들이 의식을 개선하고 주인의식을 갖도록 하는데 큰 역할을 하고 있다.
