새마을세계화재단(대표이사 장동희)은 9월 1일 ‘나는 글로벌청년새마을지도자’를 발간했다고 6일 밝혔다.

이 책은 2018년부터 스리랑카, 라오스에 파견됐던 글로벌청년새마을지도자 4명의 이야기로 새마을시범마을조성사업 현장에서 주민들과 함께 새마을세계화사업을 추진했던 생생한 경험을 사진과 수기, 인터뷰를 통해 담고 있다. 

특히 처음 새마을시범마을에 도착했을 때의 설렘, 문화와 생활환경이 다른 곳에서 지내는 것의 어려움, 주민들과 함께 새마을세계화사업을 진행하며 느꼈던 희열 등 글로벌청년새마을지도자들 각자가 겪었던 경험과 감정이 책 속에 잘 녹아 있다.

4명의 글로벌청년새마을지도자들은 파견 전에는 대학생(권기윤, 박동규), 대학원생(김성민), 취업준비생(심준명) 등 각자 다른 생활을 하고 있었지만 모두 글로벌청년새마을지도자 활동을 통해 많은 경험을 쌓고 개인적 성장을 이룰 수 있었다고 말했다. 

저자인 4명의 글로벌청년새마을지도자들은“나는 참 운이 좋고 행복한 청년이다. 일생의 꿈이었던 국제개발협력 현장 경험과, 내가 쓴 책 발간을 젊은 나이에 이루어 내게 됐다. 코로나19로 사업을 마무리하지 못하고 귀국하게 되어 아쉽지만, 이 책이 국제개발협력의 길을 걷고자 하는 다른 청년들에게 좋은 길잡이가 되길 바란다”며 소감을 밝혔다.

또한 글로벌청년새마을지도자들은 책 발간에 도움을 준 경상북도와 새마을세계화재단에 감사 인사를 전했다.  

장동희 새마을세계화재단 대표이사는 “글로벌청년새마을지도자들이 사업 현장에서 주민들과 함께 흘린 땀과 노력 덕분에 새마을세계화사업이 괄목할 만한 결실을 얻고 있다”며 “이번 수기집 발간이 새마을세계화사업의 최일선에서 느꼈던 생생한 경험과 감동을 많은 사람과 나눌 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.

한편 새마을세계화재단은 2018년부터 아시아·아프리카 6개국 19개 마을에 38명의 글로벌청년새마을지도자를 파견했다. 이들은 새마을시범마을에 거주하며 현지 주민들과 함께 새마을시범마을조성사업 관련 지역거버넌스 구축, 소득증대, 주민교육, 환경개선 등의 업무를 수행해 왔다.
