Saemaul Global  Foundation conducts ginger cultivation business in Saemaul pilot village in Ponjong, Indonesia

[Break News, Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do] Reporter Lee Seong-hyun = Saemaul Globalization Foundation (CEO Chang Dong-hee) announced on the 20th that it has conducted a ginger cultivation project for 150 residents of the Saemaul Demonstration Village in Ponjong, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

From April to December 2020, the foundation used the technology to grow ginger from sacks so that even residents without land could easily participate and earn income.

The business was carried out by cultivating ginger for 7 months in sacks of compost and rice bran, some of which were reused as seedlings, and some of them sold to earn profits. The foundation provided ginger seedlings in April and continued to provide education and monitoring for the following eight months.

Ginger has a high profit of 20,000 rupiah (about 1,600 won) per kilogram in the market, and is particularly popular as a medicinal plant, so it is easy to sell. After seeing the profits generated from ginger cultivation, some residents invested their own money to add ginger cultivation independently of the support of the foundation, and some residents started cultivating the land by inquiring technology from foundation experts.

Ponjong Village is a village where the 5-year Saemaul Demonstration Village Project was completed in December 2020, and the residents were the subject of the Ginger cultivation as a way to become self-reliant without the help of the Foundation. It achieved its own results. Some of the residents who participated in the ginger cultivation project plan to sell the harvested ginger right at the market, and some are planning to further develop processed ginger products.

Rizki (24 years old), a young man in the village, said, “Participating in the Saemaul Globalization Foundation's ginger business, I became convinced that I could increase my income by growing ginger. He succeeded in cultivating it on land and secured more land. “I want to produce processed products using ginger in the long term,” he said. “As I participated in the project of the Saemaul Globalization Foundation, I gained confidence that'I can do it too.' "I am grateful to the Saemaul Global Fire Foundation for the last five years for the people's efforts."

On the other hand, the Ginger business video of Ponjong Village can also be viewed on the Saemaul Globalization Foundation YouTube channel (Saemaul Globalization Foundation SGF).
