지난 3일 경주성동시장 상인회 대회의실에서 류희림 경주엑스포대공원 사무총장과 박기섭 경주성동시장 상인회 회장 등이 참석한 가운데 자매결연을 체결했다.

경주엑스포대공원은 매월 ‘전통시장 가는 날’을 지정하고 정기적인 시장이용과 함께 물품구매 등 소비 촉진에 나서고 성동시장은 품질 좋은 물건을 저렴하게 공급해 소비자 신뢰도를 높이고 홍보물 상시 설치 등 지역관광 활성화에 힘을 보태기로 뜻을 모았다.

박기섭 경주성동시장 상인회 회장은 “전통시장 활성화를 위해 노력하는 경주엑스포에 상인들을 대표해 감사하고, 상호보완적이며 지속적인 협력을 이어갈 수 있기를 희망한다”고 전했다.

자매결연 체결 후 경주엑스포대공원 전 직원은 설맞이 장보기를 진행했다. 직원들은 제수용품과 생필품, 과일, 먹거리 등 다양한 상품을 구입하고 점심식사를 하면서 시장을 방문한 시민들을 대상으로 전통시장 이용 장려 캠페인을 펼쳤다.

특히 장보기를 통해 구입한 물품 모두를 경주시 천북면 소재 아동복지시설 ‘대자원’을 방문해 위문품으로 전달하며 훈훈하고 따뜻한 설날 명절을 위한 나눔 활동을 이었다.

한편 경주엑스포대공원은 경주성동시장뿐만 아니라 중앙시장과 불국사상가시장, 불국시장 등 매월 1회 ‘전통시장 가는 날’을 지정해 물품구매를 실시하는 등 지역상권 활성화를 위한 공헌활동을 지난해부터 꾸준하게 펼치고 있다.

류희림 경주엑스포대공원 사무총장은 “명절을 앞둔 상황임에도 지역 전통시장 상인들이 힘든 시간을 보내고 있다”며 “어려운 시기를 힘 모아 극복할 수 있도록 지역 내 여러 전통시장과 지속적인 협력강화 네트워크를 조성해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
