영남대의료원은 1일, 김종연 교수가 제21대 영남대 의무부총장 겸 의료원장으로 취임한다고 밝혔다.

김종연 신임 의료원장은 2년간 영남대의료원을 이끌게 된다.

김 의료원장은 1985년 영남대 의과대학을 졸업, 영남대 의학석사 및 의학박사를 취득했다. 

또 제22대 의과대학장 겸 제6대 의학전문대학원장을 역임한 바 있다. 대외적으로 대한생리학회 제64대 회장으로서 생리학, 의학 분야에서의 활발한 학술활동과 회원 간 교류를 통해 우리나라에서 가장 오래된 의학회의 발전을 이끈 바 있다. 

 김종연 신임 의료원장은 “지난 2년 동안 기본과 자율이라는 두 가지 명제로 고객이 원하는 병원, 힐링과 문화가 있는 병원을 위한 정책들을 개발하고 시행하였다”며, “올 한 해는 단기간 성과가 아닌 지속 가능한 의료원이 될 수 있도록 기본을 위한 시스템 정립에 남은 힘을 쏟도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
