【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=영남대의료원(의료원장 김종연)이 캄보디아 현지에서 의료 봉사활동을 진행했다고 밝혔다.

작년에 이어 두 번째로 시행된 의료 봉사활동은 영남대 사회공헌단의 글로벌 해외자원봉사대 파견 프로그램의 일환으로 캄보디아 캄퐁참(Kampong Cham) 지역에서 실시되었다.

내분비대사내과와 심장내과 의료진 4명은 지난달 16일부터 21일까지 당뇨와 심혈관계질환을 앓고 있는 240여 명의 캄보디아 캄퐁참 지역 주민들을 대상으로 만성질환 건강상담, 약물치료, 초음파 검사 등을 진행했다.

이와 함께 500만 원 상당의 당뇨병 치료제를 현지 병원에 기부하고, 만성질환 예방 교육용 리플릿 자료를 배부하는 등 의료 접근성이 낮은 현지 주민들의 건강증진을 위한 시간을 가졌다.

영남대의료원은 개도국 주민의 건강증진을 위한 다양한 국제보건 프로젝트를 실시하는 등 국제 보건 사업을 적극적으로 추진하며 책임 경영을 실천하고 있다.

2005년 해외 의료봉사단 출범을 시작으로 캄보디아, 베트남, 인도네시아, 필리핀, 라오스, 에티오피아, 중국 등지에서 의료봉사 활동을 시행해온 영남대의료원은 이 밖에도 라오스 공안부 현대식병원 건립 사업, 아제르바이잔·피지 감염병 관리 연수, 탄자니아 성어거스틴대학교 지역사회개발 및 보건학과 설립 사업, 우간다 감염병 대응체계 강화 컨설팅 사업 등 지역을 대표하는 의료기관으로서 세계를 무대로 사회 공헌 활동을 지속해서 확대하고 있다.

 김종연 의료원장은 “ESG 경영활동으로서 국제보건사업을 지속적으로 추진하기 위해 의료원이 나아가야 할 방향에 대해 끊임없이 고민하고 있다”라며, “사업 범위도 점차 확장하고 동시에 내실을 다져 국제 보건 분야를 선도하는 의료기관으로서 책임을 다하겠다”라는 의지를 피력했다.
