【브레이크뉴스 경주】이성현 기자=경주솔거미술관은 한국화 소장 작품의 미국 클리블랜드 미술관 전시추진을 위해 지난 24일 윌리엄 그리스월드(William M. Griswold) 클리블랜드 미술관장을 비롯 앨랜 맬빅(Mrs. Ellen Stirn Mavec) 미술관 고액기부자단체장 등을 대상으로 뷰잉 행사를 진행했다고 25일 밝혔다.

경주엑스포대공원에 따르면 이날 방문은 클리블랜드 미술관 관장과 학예사가 미술관의 고액 기부자 단체와 함께 한국의 문화와 예술을 감상하고, 작품 매입이나 전시를 추진하기 위한 한국 방문의 일환으로 이뤄졌다.

이날 클리블랜드 미술관 일행은 정규식 경주엑스포대공원 사무총장의 안내로 솔거미술관에서 박대성 화백의 ‘코리아 판타지전’ 작품을 감상하고 박대성전시관 5관에서 열린 환영행사에 참가해 작품 관람 소감을 나누며, 경주엑스포대공원 및 솔거미술관 관계자들과 교류의 시간을 가졌다.

정규식 경주엑스포대공원 사무총장은 환영사를 통해 “솔거미술관이 소장하고 있는 박대성 화백의 작품은 수천 년 이어온 한국미술의 맥을 잇는 작품들이다 클리블랜드 미술관에서 전시된다면 정말 뜻깊은 전시회가 될 것이다. 아울러 클리블랜드 미술관의 작품도 솔거미술관에서 전시될 수 있었으면 한다”고 말했다.

작품을 둘러 본 윌리엄 그리스월드 관장은 “환영해 주신 정규식 사무총장님과 미술관 관계자들에게 감사드린다. 멋진 전시를 박대성 화백의 설명을 직접 들으며 작품을 감상하는 경험을 할 수 있어 좋았다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

클리블랜드 미술관은 미국 오하이오주에 소재하고 있으며, 한국 세브란스 병원을 개원한 세브란스가(家) 재단이 운영하는 미술관으로 한국과 인연이 깊다. 특히 한국미술에 관심이 많아 고려청자 수 백점을 매입해 전시하기도 했다.

한편, 경주솔거미술관은 지난해 미국 로스앤젤레스(LA)의 LA카운티 미술관(LACMA)을 시작으로 하버드대, 다스머스트대 후드미술관 등에서 한국화의 세계화 브랜딩을 위한 릴레이 전시를 펼치고 있다.

Director William Griswold, who toured the works, said, “I would like to thank Secretary General Chung Kyu-shik and the museum officials for their welcome. It was good to have the experience of appreciating the works while listening to the explanation of the wonderful exhibition by the artist Park Dae-seong.”

The Cleveland Museum of Art is located in Ohio, USA. It is an art museum run by the Severance Family Foundation, which opened the Korea Severance Hospital, and has a deep relationship with Korea. He was particularly interested in Korean art, so he purchased and exhibited hundreds of Goryeo celadon pieces.

Meanwhile, Gyeongju Solgeo Museum of Art is holding relay exhibitions for the global branding of Korean paintings at Harvard University, Darsmust University Hood Museum, starting with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) last year.
