【브레이크뉴스 성주】이성현 기자=세계 최고 품질의 맛과 향을 자랑하는 성주군의 대표적인 특산물인 성주참외가 8일 첫 출하됐다.

전국 참외 재배면적의 75%이상을 차지하는 성주참외는 국내외에서 인정받는 명품 과일로이번 첫 출하는 본격적인 유통 시작을 알림과 동시에 참외산업의새로운 도약을 기대하게 했다.

성주 참외는 지난해 6,200억원이라는 역대 최고의 조수입을 기록하며 2년 연속 조수입6천억원 이상을 달성했으며 올해 6천억원을 확고히 다지고, 7천억원 시대를 조기 달성하기 위한 목표로 황금빛 참외수확을 시작했다.

올해 첫 출하는 월항면 보암2리의 배선호(56세) 농가에서 출하되었는데. 겨울임에도 불구하고 성주참외 특유의 달콤한 맛과 아삭한 식감이 고스란히 느껴져, 성주 명품참외의 품질을 다시 한번 증명했다.

특히, 올해는 참외 첫 수확의 기쁨과 성주참외의 우수성을 널리 알리고, 농업인의 노고와 올 한해 참외농사의 성공을 기원하는 다양한 행사도 열렸다.

지역가수인 배금성씨를 성주군 참외 홍보대사로 위촉하고, 참외 조수입7천억 달성을 간절히 기원하는 참외 헌과의식도 치르는 등 주민들이 함께 어울릴 수 있는 화합의 장도 마련됐다.

아울러, 한울림 풍물패, 월항초등학교 학생, 별고을 광대, 지역가수들의무대 등으로 흥겨운 볼거리를 제공하였고, 떡국, 어묵탕, 두부 등 다양한먹거리도 준비되어 월항면민들의 축제와 같은 분위기를 연출했다.

이병환 성주군수는“참외 조수입 6천억 시대를 연지 불과 2년 밖에되지않았지만, 이제는 참외 재배기술 향상과 스마트팜 농법 확대를 통한 IT영농시대 개막으로 참외 조수입 7천억달성도 머지 않았다. 참외산업을 중심으로 농업 조수입 1조원 시대를 위해 다양한 정책적 지원에최선을 다하겠다”라고 말했다.
