【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단(이사장 조성돈)은 한국정책학회(학회장 박형준 성균관대 교수)와 함께 26일 부산항국제전시컨벤션센터에서 '2025 방폐물관리 연차 보고대회'를 열었다.

방폐물 관리사업의 지난 1년 성과와 앞으로의 추진 방향을 발표하는 이 행사에는 정동만 국회의원을 비롯해 정부, 학계, 산업계 관계자 200여 명이 참석했다.

올해 보고대회는 한국정책학회 학술대회와 연계하여 진행됐으며, 방폐물 관리 특별 세션과 공단-한국정책학회 간 업무협약(MOU) 체결식이 함께 열렸다.

특별 세션에서는 은재호 카이스트 교수가 '방폐물 관리사업의 갈등관리와 향후 과제'를, 박형준 한국정책학회장은 '고준위방폐물 관리위원회의 성공적 운영과 거버넌스 구축을 위한 전략적 프레임워크'를 주제로 각각 발표했다.

이어 양 기관은 방폐물 관리사업에 대한 국민 이해를 높이고, 갈등 관리를 위한 공동 연구를 추진하기로 합의하고 업무협약을 체결했다.

이날 행사에서는 방폐물 관리사업 유공자들에 대한 시상도 있었다. 고도기술 권수천 대표 등 12명이 산업통상자원부 장관상을, 신한자산운용 오태호 본부장 등 5명이 공단 이사장상을 받았다.

조성돈 한국원자력환경공단 이사장은 "2만여 톤의 사용후핵연료와 16만 드럼의 중저준위 방폐물을 안전하게 관리하는 것은 원자력의 지속적인 발전과 국민 안전을 위한 핵심"이라며, "고준위방폐물관리위원회가 출범하면 고준위 처분 부지 선정에 착수하고, 태백 URL 건설, 중저준위 방폐물 처분시설 건설 등 방폐물 관리를 내실화하는 한 해로 만들겠다"고 강조했다.

KOREA (Chairman Cho Sung-don) and the Korean Academic Society for Policy Studies (President Park Hyung-joon, Professor at Sungkyunkwan University) held the "2025 Radioactive Waste Management Annual Report Conference" at the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center on the 26th.

The event, which presented the achievements of the radioactive waste management project over the past year and future directions, was attended by approximately 200 participants from government, academia, and industry, including National Assembly Member Chung Dong-man.

This year's report conference was held in conjunction with the KOREA academic conference and included a special session on radioactive waste management and a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between KOREA and the Korean Academic Society for Policy Studies.

In a special session, Professor Eun Jae-ho of KAIST presented on "Conflict Management and Future Challenges in the Radioactive Waste Management Project," and President Park Hyung-joon of the Korean Association for Policy Studies presented on "A Strategic Framework for the Successful Operation and Governance of the High-Level Radioactive Waste Management Committee."

Following this, the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote public understanding of the radioactive waste management project and pursue joint research on conflict management.

The event also featured awards for those who contributed to the radioactive waste management project. Twelve individuals, including Kwon Soo-cheon, CEO of Advanced Technology, received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, while five individuals, including Oh Tae-ho, Head of Shinhan Asset Management, received the KROC Chairman's Award.

Cho Sung-don, chairman of the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency, said, "Safely managing 20,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel and 160,000 drums of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste is key to the continued development of nuclear power and public safety," adding, "Once the High-Level Radioactive Waste Management Committee is launched, we will begin selecting a site for the high-level radioactive waste disposal and make this year a year to strengthen radioactive waste management, including the construction of the Taebaek URL and the low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste disposal facility."
