공단에 따르면 안전문화대상은 행정안전부가 사회 각 분야에서 우수 안전문화 활동·사례를 발굴·공유하기 위한 행사다.

공단은 안전경영 방침 수립, 안전제안제도 운영, 안전작업허가제 운영, ISO 국제 통합안전경영시스템인증 취득, 공생협력프로그램 도입, 인근 초등학교 방사선 측정 서비스 제공, 지역 안전취약계층 화재감지 설비 제공 등의 공로를 인정받았다.

차성수 한국원자력환경공단 이사장은 “앞으로도 안전문화 향상을 위해 적극적인 투자를 이어나가겠다”면서 “안전으로 신뢰받는 방폐물 관리 전문기관으로 자리매김하겠다”고 말했다.
