【브레이크뉴스 경산】이성현 기자=(재)경북테크노파크(원장 하인성)는 스마트 그린물류 규제자유특구의 대표 특구기업인 에코브㈜가 미국 호네스타스(Honestas)社와 북미 합작법인(JV) 설립 및 향후 5년간 약 1억 달러 규모의 화물용 전기자전거 공급을 목표로 하는 전략적 업무협약(MOA)을 체결했다고 29일 밝혔다.

이번 협약에 따라 양사는 미국 현지에 합작법인을 설립하고, 경북 물류특구에서 실증·검증된 기술을 기반으로 한 화물용 전기자전거를 미 연방조달시장에 본격 공급할 계획이다.

협약식은 경북 김천 율곡생활물류복합센터에서 열렸으며, 미국 호네스타스의 토머스 M. 깁슨(Thomas M. Gibson) 대표와 에코브㈜ 임성대·최정남 공동대표, 경상북도 및 경북테크노파크 관계자 등이 참석했다.

경북 스마트 그린물류 규제자유특구는 지난해 중소벤처기업부 운영성과평가에서 전국 유일 ‘최우수’ 등급을 받으며 국비 인센티브 13억5천만 원을 추가 확보했다. 확보된 재원으로 상용화 제품개발 R&D 과제를 추진한 결과, 개발된 시제품이 높은 혁신성을 인정받아 이번 미국 수출 협약으로 이어졌다.

경북테크노파크는 특구 실증이 원활히 진행될 수 있도록 국가기술표준원과 행정안전부 등 관계부처 협력을 이끌어냈으며, 지역대학 및 주민 100여 명이 참여한 실증 테스트를 통해 다양한 노면 환경에서의 성능을 검증했다. 또한 외부 전문가 자문과 성능평가를 통해 제품 완성도를 높였다.

특히 경북테크노파크는 외부 전문기관 KTC와 협력해 독일 안전기준(DIN79010)을 벤치마킹한 전국 유일의 화물 전기자전거 안전성 평가 테스트랩을 구축, 국내에 없던 안전성 검증 체계를 마련했다. 이를 통해 특구 기업들은 개발 제품을 국제 수준에서 검증받고 수출 경쟁력을 한층 강화했다.

하인성 경북테크노파크 원장은 “경북 스마트 그린물류 규제자유특구에서 개발된 혁신 시제품이 해외 조달시장에 진출한 것은 지역 기술력과 특구 인프라가 결합한 성과”라며 “앞으로도 지역 기업들의 우수 기술이 국내외 시장에서 실질적 사업 성과로 이어질 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Gyeongbuk Technopark (President Ha In-seong) announced on the 29th that Ecove, a leading company within the Smart Green Logistics Regulatory-Free Zone, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with US-based Honestas to establish a North American joint venture (JV) and supply approximately $100 million worth of electric cargo bikes over the next five years.

Under this agreement, the two companies will establish a joint venture in the US and begin supplying electric cargo bikes based on technology proven and validated in the Gyeongbuk Logistics Zone to the US federal procurement market.

The signing ceremony was held at the Yulgok Logistics Complex in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Thomas M. Gibson, CEO of Honestas USA; Lim Seong-dae and Choi Jeong-nam, co-CEOs of Ecove Co., Ltd.; and officials from Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and Gyeongbuk Technopark attended.

The Gyeongbuk Smart Green Logistics Regulatory-Free Special Zone received the nation's only "highest" rating in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' operational performance evaluation last year, securing an additional KRW 1.35 billion in government incentives. With the secured funds, the zone pursued R&D projects for commercial product development. The resulting prototypes were recognized for their high level of innovation, leading to the US export agreement.

Gyeongbuk Technopark fostered cooperation with relevant government agencies, including the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, to ensure smooth implementation of the special zone demonstration. Performance was verified on various road surfaces through field tests involving over 100 local universities and residents. Furthermore, product quality was enhanced through external expert consultation and performance evaluations.

In particular, Gyeongbuk Technopark, in collaboration with an external expert organization, KTC, established the nation's only safety evaluation test lab for electric cargo bikes, benchmarking against the German safety standard (DIN79010), establishing a safety verification system that did not previously exist in Korea. Through this, companies in the special zone have had their products verified at an international level, further enhancing their export competitiveness.

Ha In-seong, Director of Gyeongbuk Technopark, stated, "The entry of innovative prototypes developed in the Gyeongbuk Smart Green Logistics Regulatory-Free Special Zone into the overseas procurement market is a testament to the combined strengths of local technology and the special zone's infrastructure.
