‘상주농업기계박람회’는 매회 20만에 달하는 참관객과 종사자들이방문하는 행사로 감염병이 확산·전파될 우려가 높다. 또한 상주시에서도 산발적인 지역감염 발생으로 확진자가 100명을 넘어서고 있으며 고병원성AI도 전국적으로 이어지고 있다.

이에 상주시는 실무부서 대책회의와 관계기관 등의 협의를 거쳐 코로나19및 고병원성AI가 당분간은 진정되지 않을 것으로 판단하고 박람회 취소를 결정 했다.

‘상주농업기계박람회’는 지난 2008년부터 2년 주기로 7회에 걸쳐 개최되면서 제조업체와 농업인이 가장 선호하는 대한민국 최고의 박람회로 자리매김했고 그동안 지역경제에도 많은 도움이 됐다.

강영석 상주시장은 “코로나19로 어려움을 겪고 있는 지역 소상공인들을 생각하면 안타까운 일”이라며 “시민의 안전을 위해 코로나19 및 고병원성AI 방역에 최선을 다하고 무너진 지역경제를살리는 데 모든 역량을 쏟겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 상주시는 경상북도 및 한국농기계공업협동조합과 긴밀하게 협의해 차기 박람회를 내년 봄에 개최할 수 있도록 검토 중이며 한국농기계공업협동조합은 올해 박람회 개최를 기대하고 있던 농업인과 농기계 제조업체를 위해 비대면 온라인 행사를 검토하고 있다.
