20일 상주시에 따르면 이번 공모사업은 근로자 정주여건을 개선하는 사업으로 공공임대주택 등을 건립하여 기업의 지방 투자 확대와 이전을 촉진하고 활기찬 지방시대를 구현하는 것이다.

이번 선정으로 상주시는 맞춤형 기업 지원과 관리로 ‘기업하기 좋은 도시, 정주하기 좋은 도시’구축에 탄력을 받을 것으로 예상된다.

상주시는 SK그룹과 2021년과 2022년에 청리일반산업단지 이차전지 소재 분야와 관련하여 1.1조 규모의 투자양해각서를 체결하고 현재 SK머티리얼즈그룹포틴(주)의 실리콘 음극재 제1공장 내 제품양산을 위한 최종 테스트를 진행 중이다.

SK청리공장에는 90여명의 직원이 근무를 하고 있으나, 지역 내 주거시설 부족으로 숙박시설이나 타지역에 거처를 마련하여 출퇴근하고 있는 실정이다.

또한 2023년 4월에 준공식을 개최한 상주일반산업단지에 동천수, 아바코, 새빗켐 등이 총 1,200억원을 투자하여 230개의 일자리가 창출되면 주택수요가 증가해 근로자를 위한 주거시설의 부족현상이 가중될 것으로 예상돼 11월 행안부에서 진행한 공모사업에 근로자 전용 공공임대주택 건립사업을 신청했다.

이번 공모에서 상주시는 투자 기업들이 필요로 하는 지역 내 주거시설 수요현황과 더불어 현재 관내에서 추진 중인 각종 보육·문화·체육시설(공공산후조리원, 상주시립도서관, 제2국민체육센터 등) 건립사업과 연계하여 시너지 효과 극대화가 가능하며, 근로자들의 지역정착으로 이어질 수 있다는 점을 내세웠다.
