【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=계명대학교 동산병원은 소아외과 정은영 교수가 세계 최초로 개발한 ‘복강경 완전 복막외 서혜부 탈장 수술법(Pediatric totally extraperitoneal inguinal hernia repair, Pediatric TEPL)’이 미국소화기내시경외과학회(SAGES) 공식 저널인 ‘Surgical Endoscopy’ 2021년 2월호에 게재됐다고 16일 밝혔다.

 계명대학교 동산병원에 따르면 정은영 교수는 새 수술법을 2015년 생후 23일 서혜부 탈장 여아에게 첫 시행한 후, 현재까지 300명 이상의 소아외과 환자에게 성공적으로 시행해왔다.

서혜부 탈장이란 닫혀 있어야 할 초상돌기가 열려 있으면서 탈장주머니가 되고, 이 주머니를 통해 복강내 장기들이 밀려 나오는 질환으로 수술이 필요한 소아외과 질환 중 가장 흔하다.

지금까지 복강경을 이용한 서혜부 탈장 수술법은 기존 절개 수술과는 달리 복막을 관통하는 수술방식이며, 탈장낭을 한번만 묶을 수 있기에 재발의 가능성이 높았고 복막의 훼손으로 인한 장 유착 가능성이 있었다.

하지만 정은영 교수는 복강경으로 복막을 관통하지 않고도 기존 절개수술을 완전히 재연함으로써 탈장낭을 두 번 이상 묶을 수 있어, 재발률과 장 유착 가능성을 낮출 수 있게 됐다. 또한, 수술 시행 6년 동안 단기 재발률 0%의 결과를 얻으며 수술법의 우수성을 증명했다. 정은영 교수는 현재 이 수술에 이용되는 특수 투관침에 대한 국내 특허 출원을 진행 중이다.

정은영 교수는 “본 수술법 개발 의의는 ‘세계 최초’ 성과에 집중하기보다, 어린이 환자들의 서혜부 탈장 재발률을 낮출 수 있게 됐다는 데에 있다”며, “앞으로도 소아외과를 찾는 많은 환자들이 보다 안전하고 좋은 수술을 받을 수 있도록 더욱 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 계명대 동산병원은 2013년 소아 서혜부 탈장수술을 지역 최초로 시작했으며, 연 평균 250건의 수술 경험을 자랑할 정도로 소아외과 영역에서 많은 성과를 거두고 있다.
