대구 수성구(구청장 김대권)는 망월지에서 인근 욱수산으로 이동 예정인 새끼두꺼비들의 이동 경로 이탈과 로드킬 방지를 위해 자연보호협의회 회원들과 함께 230m 정도의 그물펜스 설치작업을 진행했다고 29일 밝혔다.

현재 뒷다리가 나온 올챙이들은 5월 초순이면 새끼두꺼비로 변모해 어미가 내려온 인근 산으로 대규모 이동할 것이 예상된다. 지난해는 새끼두꺼비들이 5월 15일 오전 첫 이동을 시작해 비오는 날 등 습한 환경을 이용해 욱수산으로 이동했다.

수성구는 "새끼두꺼비가 안전하게 올라갈 때까지 이동경로에 설치된 CCTV를 통해 모니터링하고, 주기적인 방지펜스 점검을 통해 두꺼비 보호 활동을 진행할 계획"이라고 밝혔다.
