경상북도의회 황병직(영주, 무소속) 의원이 SK머티리얼즈 배터리 부품공장 영주 지역 외 건립에 반대하며 성명서를 발표했다.
SK머티리얼즈가 상주시 일원에 11만 3천평 규모로 5년간 8천 4백억원을 투입해 부지 매입을 확정했다는 최근언론 보도에 대해 황병직 의원은 “SK머티리얼즈는 배터리 부품공장 타 지역 건립 추진을 즉시 중단하고 영주시에 부품공장 건립을 즉각 추진하라”며 성명서를 발표했다.
이어 그는 “배터리 부품공장을 타 지역 건립을 계속 추진할 시에는 영주시민의 안전을 위협하는 SK머티리얼즈 본사 또한 즉각 이전하라”고 촉구했다.
황 의원은 “영주시민은 SK머티리얼즈의 유해독성물질 누출과 폭발사고 위험에 상시 노출되어 있고, 실제 2009년부터 2013년까지 화재 및 폭발사고로 인명피해가 나는 등 크고 작은 안전사고가 발생해 영주시민은 극심한 불안감을 느끼고 있는 실정이다.”고 강조했다.
그러면서 “영주시민의 안전을 담보로 많은 이윤을 취한 SK머티리얼즈가 기업의 재투자를 영주시가 아닌 타 지역으로 한다는 것은 기업이 아무리 돈을 우선시 하는 조직이라고 해도 상식 밖이고, 도의적이지 않으며 영주시민을 철저히 무시하는 처사이다.”고 질타했다.
