정한석 의원은 「경상북도교육청 학업중단 예방 및 대안교육 지원 조례 일부개정조례」 및 「경상북도교육청 주민참여 예산제 운영 조례 전부개정조례」를 대표 발의하고, 그 외 10개 조례안을 발의하는 등 초선의원임에도 도민과 학생들의 복지 증진 및 교육 여건 개선을 위한 정책을 적극적으로 펼쳤다는 것에서 높은 평가를 받았다.
특히, 2022년 행정사무감사를 통해 시정․처리 3건, 건의․촉구 7건 등 교육 제도 개선을 이끌어 내었고, 예산결산특별위원회 위원으로서 지난 해 경북도 및 경북교육청 2차례 추경과 올해 본예산 심사에서 날카로운 분석을 통해 교육재정의 효율적 운영 및 지역경제 활성화에 기여하는 등 활발한 의정활동을 펼친 점이 눈에 띈다.
정 의원은 “상을 받아 기쁘긴 하나, 아직도 많이 부족하다. 주민과 늘 소통하며 무엇을 해야할 지 고민하고, 지역 발전을 위해 발로 뛰겠다.”고 말했다.
