국립농산물품질관리원 경북지원(지원장 서준한)은 대구에서 정육점과 식육식당을 운영해온 업주 A씨가 상습적인 원산지·등급 허위표시 및 냉동식육 불법 해동 판매 등을 이어온 사실이 확인돼 구속됐다고 21일 밝혔다.

조사 결과, A씨는 2020년 4월부터 2025년 9월까지 약 5년 5개월 동안 외국산 돼지고기 약 11톤(약 2억4천만 원 상당)을 국내산으로 거짓 표시해 판매했으며, 한우 2·3등급 약 1.6톤(약 4천만 원 상당)을 상위 등급으로 둔갑시켜 유통했다. 또한 냉동식육 약 18톤(약 1억6천만 원 상당)을 불법 해동한 뒤 냉장육으로 판매하는 방식으로 지속적인 부당이득을 취한 것으로 드러났다.

A씨는 올해 7월 구속영장실질심사에서 건강 문제와 반성 태도 등이 고려돼 구속을 면했으나, 이후 업종을 식육식당으로 전환한 뒤에도 동일한 수법의 위법 행위를 반복해 총 3차례 추가 적발됐다. 이에 경북농관원은 상습성과 위법성의 중대성을 근거로 재차 구속영장을 신청했으며, 이번에는 법원이 영장을 발부하면서 A씨는 결국 구속됐다.

경북농관원 관계자는 “축산물의 원산지 및 등급 거짓표시는 소비자를 속이는 중대한 범죄행위”라며 “특히 상습·악질 위법 사업자에 대해서는 엄정한 형사조치와 강도 높은 단속을 지속할 것”이라고 강조했다. 또 “원산지 표시가 의심되는 경우 부정유통 신고센터(☎1588-8112) 또는 농관원 누리집으로 적극 제보해 달라”고 당부했다.

한편 법령상 관련 위반 행위에 대한 처벌 기준은 △원산지 거짓표시 시 7년 이하 징역 또는 1억 원 이하 벌금 △식육등급 거짓표시 시 5년 이하 징역 또는 5천만 원 이하 벌금 △냉동식육 불법 해동 시 3년 이하 징역 또는 3천만 원 이하 벌금이다.
